School Superintendent Lewis Immel introduced each of the gfede school and high school teachers who were present, and extended an official welcome from the school administration. Parents then visited in the various grade school rooms for a brief period, during which time each teacher explained the goals they hoped to achieve during the school year. Seniors Take Test For Scholarship Rating This week 21 members of the senior class of Syracuse High School joined thousands of high school seniors all over the United States and its territories in taking the Scholarship Qualifying Test sponsored by the scholarship testing program of Indiana colleges and universities. This test is prepared and distributed by the Educational Testing Service of Princeton, New Jersey and the scholarship offered total several hundred thousand dollars. Syracuse High School seniors who took the test were Tom Miller. Milton Karesh. Judy Jones, Dian Alfrey, Gary Kline, Larry Laird, Lexie Brazel. Nancy Shuder. Sharon Gilbert. Robert Swenson. Mrs. Karl Weingart underwent surgery at Goshen Hospital Tuesday 14 October. Mrs. Maud DeVault was admitted to Goshen Hospital for treatment Wednesday 15 October. She was dismissed Monday. Dismissed Thursday from Gosshen Hospital were Mrs. Clara Stansbury, and Mrs. Bert Swank. Jack Leamon. RJR. 1. was dismissed Saturday. Sue Ann Traster had a tonsillectomy at Goshen General Hospital Saturday. Pat Appenzeller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Appenzeller, was treated for an injured wrist at Goshen Hospital Saturday. Fund Drive Next Week In Residential Areas Canvass of the residential areas of Syracuse and Turkey Creek township for United Fund is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday of next week according to announcement yesterday by Ralph Thornburg. Training session for solicitors will be held Monday 7:30 pm. at the school house. Thornburg, who assisted Mrs. Orrin Smith, township chairman. in organizing this final stage of the United Fund campaign. said that Bob Ellison, presedent. and James McCleary, campaign chairman, both of Warsaw would attend the Monday night meeting. Lewis Immel is training director of solicitors in the township. Cooperating in the house-to-house drive will be meembers from the four Mothers clubs of Syracuse. Rotary, Lions and BPW clubs. All volunteers will be welcome, said Thornburg, in order to complete tha canvass in the two-day peroid. To dat ethe towsnhip fund totals $1,125.70, Mrs. Smith reported Tuesday. Os this amount, $529 cash has been received, the balance is in pledges. This 1s the result of a canvass of retail business by Richard W. Heyde, Herman Bauman. Paul Levemier and Ralph Thornburg: from Robert W. Schacht of Morrison Island. All monies are turned into Noble Blocker at the Stat eßank. Reports on the payroll deduction canvass is expected to be completed next week. Thornburg also said that anyone not contracted may see him at the drug store to sign a pledge card or make a donation.
