Install OES Officers At Open Meeting Saturday blight
, (Picture on page 2) Installation of officers of the Order of the Eastern Star in Syracuse was held Saturday evening 29 March in the Chap ter room. Artistically decorated for the occasion by Mrs. Jack Ridings, out-going matron, the background in the east was adorned with clusters of violets, and the sword and veil united. On the pedestal was the word ‘•Friendship.’' "Walk humbly with thy God.” the motto of the new matron and patron, was mounted in the west surrounded by clusters of violets. . -5 * Mrs. Patrica Mcßride of Angola Chapter 78 served as Installing Officer. Before assuming her station the new worthy matron was honored with a song by Mrs. Fred Clark. "I Believe.” She was then escorted east by her father, Paul McElroy of Columbia City, thru an aisle formed by her mother, her sister, Mrs. Gerald Karst of Fort Wayne, and her daughter. Marie Ann Cramar, who presented her with a corsage and a poem. For the worthy patron, Mrs. Clark sang “A Walk With God” before he was escorted east thru an aisle formed by Gerald Karst, Jack Ridings and his daughter, Vicki Cramar, who greeted her father with a poem and presented him with a white carnation. Following installation of the remaining officers, a gavel was presented to the worthy matron, a gift from her officers. Guests of the new matron and patron introduced were Mr. and Mrs. McElroy, Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Karst, their aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Paulson of Fort Wayne, and daughters, and great aunt, Mrs. Myona Binkley of Fort Wayne. Other guests were introduced including past matrons and patrons of the Chapter, and representatives from Leesburg. Fort Wayne Star of the East and Milford chapters. Mrs. Ray Meek and Mrs. Jack Ridings presented Chapter gifts to the Worthy Matron and Patron. The evening was concluded in the dining room where punch and cookies were served. Mrs. Karst and Mrs? Yoder presided at the table beautifully decorated in pink and green, the colors of the worthy matron. Due to illness the secretary, chaplain and organist were unable to attend. These officers will be installed at the next regular meeting 9 April. The SyracuScene ... Mrs. Allen Rex of Etna and Dan Rex called at the Harry Juday home Friday afternoon. Mr. Rex stayed to visit his brother. Jesse, who is slowly recovering from his recent illness Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Miles and Mrs. Ernest Bushong attended the science fair at the new school buildings in Nappanee Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. George Hay and children. Helen and Stephen, left Monday for a week’s vacation.in Jamaica. Mr. and Mrs. George Home of Indianapolis were guests of Mrs. E. E. Steohenson. Miss Nancy Clark returned home Monday for spring vacation from Pinebrook School for Girls in Glen Arbor, Michigan. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Bailey and Mrs. -Calvin Leedy and daughter, Lila, all of Indianapolis, are spending part of their spring vacation at their cottage on Papakeechie Lake. Methodists Plan Loyalty Dinner 10 April Plans for a Loyalty Dinner for members of the Syracuse Methodist church to be held Thursday evening, 10 April at the Oakwood Hotel Dining room have been announced by Frank Hale, chairman of the commis sion on Stewardship and Fi nances which is sponsoring the dinner.. The event will preceed the annual Every Member canvass of the church, which will be conducted between 14 April and 3C April. It is planned as a fellow ship get-to-gether of church, members and their families. The meal, which will be a pot-luck will begin at 6:30 pm. fast time. Families are to bring theii own table service. Coffee and milk will be furnished. Table hostesses will contact each family in the church in advance of the dinner. A special table for the high school youth has been planned, while children under high school age are to be seated with their families. The program will consist of congregational singing; a 30minute moving picture in color entitled “Split-Level Family”; two men are both school principals in Indianapolis. Miss Sandra Schleeter of Dayton, Ohio, will spend Easter week end with her mother, Mrs. Lois Schleeter. Mr. and Mrs Emerson Oligschlager of LaSalle. Illinois, will spend Easter week here at their Syracuse Lake home with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Oligsclager. About , the first of May Mrs. Oligschlager will come for the summer, the senior Olisgchlagers will return to LaSalle after having spent the winter here and Mr. Oligschlager will plan to be here for week ends. — Mr. sind Mrs. Noble Myers returned Friday night from a three weeks vacation in the south.
