Rofrary Club Max Owixm, free lance cartoonist from Nappanee. was the guest speaker at Rotary dub Monday evening at Howard’s. He gave a most interesting account of the work of a free lance artist competing in the field of advertising and publications. He demonstrated his type of work by drawing cartoons and caricatures on an easel before his audience. Next week Otto Beer who has raised honey bees for many years on his farm near Road 6 ? will speak. Nelson Miles is program chairman for the evening. Mrs. O. SI Pagsdale. of little. ton. Ronald L. Roberts, second from left in back row, was among the Indiana delegations to the fifth annual Junior Poultry and Egg Fact Finding Conference whiich met in Kansas City 13-16 February. Roberts asked the blessing at the Saturday evening dinner sponsored by the Quaker Oats , Company. Delegates’ trip expenses were paid by Indiana Poultry Industry members. Three Art Students Win Awards at Exhibit Twenty-two students in the art classes of Mrs. Raymond Talmadpe. art teacher in the Syracuse Schools, entered work in the Scholastic Magazines Art awards exhibit at Forf Wayne. Three of these -students received recognition i Jimmy Stefa nski. seventh grade, son of Mr. and Mrs.\Frank Stefanski, was gold achievement key for his water color of a street scene. Jill Thornburg, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thornburg, eighth grade, received a certificate of merit for her pencil sketch entitled Shoot which depicted a basketball player shooting for a basket. Marty Graff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Graff, sophomore, received a certificate of merit for his humorous poster showing a little bear after being conked on the head with a basketball labelled Syracuse. This was the first time that Syracuse students have entered the contest sponsored in this region by WANE and WANE-TV. A, national contest, it has been conducted for thirty years prior to 1958 by Scholastic Magazines, with the cooperation of public spirited sponsors as a program for encouraging student achievement in creative art. Gold achievement - keys and certificates of'merits are given as regional honors. From the work winning gold keys, the fudges in each? region select 100 blue-ribbon finalists for competing for national judging.
