Torchlight Parade For March of Dimes Funds Don’t forget the Mothers Torchlight March of Dunes tonight between the hours of 7 and 8 p.m. Fast Time. . Mothers will be canvassing areas in Syreruse. Cub Scouts Receive Awards In Ceremony Tuesday Night

Thirteen •scouts of Cub Pack j 56 received their Webelos badges, the highest award in Cub Scouting. and also attained i.heir Boy Scout Tenderfoot rank in a solemn ceremonv Tuesday night. 28 January’ at the regular meeting of Pack 56. held at the Scout Cabin. They were Larry Jones. Rodney Smifh. Duane Maynard. Greg Smith. Kenny Willard. Russ Buchan. Tom Clayton. Steve Butt, Leonard Kline. Steve Smith. David Jones. Clair McDonald and Brube Crijie. The event, which highlighted one of the most successful evenings ever held at the Cabin, also marked the first time the new addition of the Cabin has been used since construction of the new part began several months ago. Burns Van Sickle, Webelos Scout Leader and Gene Henning, assistant leader, presented the Eastern Star Observes Friends' Night Friend’s night was observed at the last stated meeting of Chapter Order of the Eastern Star Wednesday 22 January. At the PT A meeting last week, all but a few of the 125 Attending voted in favor of endorsing the plan and recommendinc to the trustee and advisory •boa rd that necessary steps for instituting the system be taken. There were no opposing votes. ‘Many parents and citizens, however, who could not attend that meeting may want to express an opinion tmd are urged to do so by using this ballot.

Leo Kowallik, assistant Scout commissioner, explained the background of the Webelos group, which originated four I (continued on page 10) Marian Anderson Sings At Goshen 6 February Marian Anderson, great American contralto, will appear in concert at the Goshen College Union Auditorium Thursday 6 February at 8:15 pm. CDT.. One of the most celebrated of living artists. Miss Anderson has performed some 1.500 concerts before more than 5.000,000 persons. This is the second time Miss Anderson has appeared at Goshen College on the LectureMus c series. Single admission tickets can be purchased at the Goshen College business office. Tickets will also be sold at the door the night of the concert if seats are still available. ) - Local Boys Attend EUB Youth Conference Dennis Miller and Harold ‘Tuffy) Kit son attended the mid-winter Youth Conc’ave of E.U.B. Indiana Conference North at Fort Wayne Saturday and Sunday. Raymond Kitson took the boys in the morning to Fort Wayne where they joined with some 600 youth. Discussion groups were conducted in the afternoon and following the banquet at the Armory in the evening they all attended the sport show at the Coliseum. E.UB. families opened their h omes to the young people for the night and on Sunday they attended morning service at the First E.U.B. Church. Final senices were held in the afternoon. HONOR TWO MEMBERS OF DIXIE BIRTHDAY CLUB Mrs. "Mary Williams and Mrs. Vera Cooper were honored guests at the Dixie Restaurant Birthday club dinner Thursday night. W.R.C. To Sponsor Essay Contest Here Syracuse John C. Adams chapter of the Women’s Relief Corp held its regular meeting Monday night 20 January at their hall with fifteen members present. During the business meeting an invitation to a Foodless Bake Sale was read. Discussion was held on the W R. c. essay contest in which grades 8 to 12 in the Syracuse school will participate. Subject of the essay is to be “What America Means to Me.” Mrs. Bertha Nicolai has offered a $5.00 prize for the winner of the local con test. The essay is to be no more than 1.000 words. There is a state prize of $lO and a national prize of a $25 saving bond. Aids and committees were announced. Aids are Estelle Swartz. Eula Johnson. Etta Auer, Elva Connell, Lena Brown. Georgia Buster. Ethel Guy. Eva Rarig, Maude Traster and Bertha Nicolai. Auditing comryttee: Myrtle Rex and Thelma Gingrich. . Executive committee: Hazel Frushour. Etta Bunger and Virginia Gilbert. Guests Ask BPW For Another Card Party Guests at the Benefit Card ’■'arty sponsored by the Syracuse Business and Professional Women’s Club last Wednesday at Howard’s enjoyed the evening so much that the requests were numerous for a repeat parly. Ninety people played Seard •Tames at twenty-two tables. Nelson Miles won the door prize and the grand prize went to Mrs. Richard Karr. The club reported a profit of $135. ? Plans are now underway for staging another benefit party at Howard’s early in March. Tickets will be available from all members of the BPW and also at the door. Bill Dorsey Wins Trip To Washington, D. C. Bill Dorsey, son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Dorsey. R. R. 3. has been selected as one of four Indiana boys to represent the state at the 4-H Club Council in Washington. D. C. 14-20 June. Announcement was received Tom Harold Taylor. State 4-H Leader and State Supervisor for Agricultural Education. Dorsey, a senior at Syracuse High School, has done outstanding work in his Vo. Ag. and FFA. programs in conjunction with '.-H activities. t Fn e other boys were nominated bv county agents thruout the state. Bill is one of two boys selected. Two girls also were named to represent Indiana at the conference. Among Bill’s achievements in 4-H are beef projects, public speaking, garden demonstrations and poultry demonstration, in which he was a state winner. He was chosen Kosciusko Junior Leader president tn 1957 and is a district vice-president this year. He is the first state delegate to be selected from Kosciusko county since 1952. t In addition. Bill has participated in many school activities and is an outstanding basketball player.
Milbourn Retires From State Police Post David J. Milboum, Indiana State Police detective sergeant, of the Ligonier po§t. turned his guns and badge in to the Indianapolis office Friday and is retiring from the force after twenty years with the department. His retirement is effective 24 Feb. A native of South Milford, Indiana, he and his family have been Goshen residents for many years. AL GRAF BREAKS HIP IN ACCIDENT SUNDAY Al Graf of R. R. 2. Syracuse, is in Elkhart General Hospital, where he was admitted on Monday 27 January suffering from a broken hip.
