Whenever a community need for service, help or aid arises, one of the first to volunteer for duty is Mrs. Fred Banta, current president of the Wawakeechie Home Demonstration Club. Mrs. Banta, the attractive wife of Fred Banta, Cromwell lumber dealer, is completing her second successful year as president of the club, which is an internationally affiliated organization. Bom in Goshen, Mrs. Banta has spent most of her life Ln the northern Indiana communities of Goshen, Elkhart and Syracuse. She attended high school -in Elkhart and also graduated from business college there, after which she was employed for eight years by a law firm in Goshen. her husband, who was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Quartermaster Corps, they returned to Indiana and in 1947 became residents of the east shore of Lake Wawasee. They recently completed construction of a modem redwood home located there just south of the familiar Crow’s Nest Inn. A woman of many accomplishments, Ruth, as she is better known, is an active participant in the sports world of bowling and golfing, besides her interest in homemaking, civic affairs and her own personal hobby of making beautiful music as a talented organist. She bowls weekly with the Cromwell Lumber Company team which meets in Goshen, and also with the State Bank team in Syracuse. She was 195657 president of the “Land O’ Lakes” golf club, a combined organization of the Tippecanoe, Maxwelton, South Shore and Wawasee women’s golf clubs. She is a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Goshen and is active in Group Five of the women’s group there. She also belongs to the Eastern Star chapter in Goshen, and holds a membership in the Alpha Omicron chapter of the Delta Chi Sigma philanthropic sorority in Goshen.
