and Miss Connie Sudlow left Friday evening for Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, to spend, the week end with Terry McClintic who is in training there. They returned Monday. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Dale Coy, Sr., and Mr. and Mrs. Dale Coy, Jr., were sight-seeing in Wisconsin over the Labor Day week end.
LEUL OTTWES ORDINANCE 423 AN ORDINANCE PROTECTING AGAINST FIRES AND FOR THE PROTECTION OF PROPERTY AND HEALTH IN THE TOWN OF SYRACUSE. SECTION I. The burning of leaves, paper, wood, rubbish, trash or waste materials within the corporate limits of the Town of Syracuse between sundown and sunrise the following day is hereby prohibited. Any owner, lessee, tenant, resident, visitor or other person burning any of the above mentioned leaves or materials in said town shall at all times watch and guard the fire created thereby and shall not leave the location unattended until such time as the fire shall have burned out or shall have been extinguished. SECTION 11. It shall be unlawful for any person to burn garbage, offal, animal or vegetable substances, or any matter or thing, creating a noxious odor, or injurious to and/or comfort within the corporate limits of the town at any time. SECTION 111. The outside burning of paper, wood, rubbish, trash and waste materials by mercantile or business establishments or by manufacturing plants within the corporate limits of the town is hereby prohibited, UNLESS, the fire is contained in and confined to a stove, oven, furnace, fireplace or other burning device equipped with a chimney or smokestack of sufficient height and capacity to insure the safety of surrounding buildings from fire. SECTION IV. During the erection, construction, alteration, razing or demolition of buildings, no waste materials or rubbish shall be disposed of by fire upon the premises or in the immediate vicinity unless and until a permit therefor has been obtained from the Chief of the Fire Department or his duly designated assistant. SECTION V. No owner, lessee, tenant, resident, visitor or other person shall kindle and maintain any open bonfires or rubbish fires at any place within the town boundaries nearer than 25 feet to any frame building or structure. Fire contained in baskets, barrels or other burning device without a chimney, but with closed top, shall not be placed nearer than 15 feet to any building, without approval of the Fire Chief or Assistant Chief. SECTION VI. The Chief of the Fire Department, and in the absence of the Chief, an Assistant Firs Chief, is hereby authorized to prohibit any and all outdoor bonfires or rubbish fires, when atmospheric condition or localized circumstances make sure fire hazardous. SECTION VH. All weeds, grass, vines, growth or unwholesome substances, that endanger property, or are injurious to health, or are liable to be fired, shall be cut and removed by the owner or occupant of the property. SECTION VIII. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of Sections I to VI inclusive, of this ordinance shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and upon conviction by any court of competent jurisdiction shall be fined in a sum of not less than SI.OO, nor more than SIO.OO. Upon the failure of an owner or occupant of property to abide by the provisions of Section VII of this ordinance, the Town Council may order the cutting and removal of all unwholesome substances from the property and assess and collect the expense thereof from the occupant or owner, and if the person against whom such assessment is made shall fail to pay the same for a period of six months, certify the amount due from such person to the County Auditor for collection as taxes, as provided for in Bums Indiana Statutes, Section 48-510. SECTION IX. The provisions of this ordinance are hereby declared to be severable, and a finding or determination that any one or more of the provisions is unconstitutional shall not affect the remaining provisions of said ordinance.
