Hibschman was elected to the post by fellow Association members in his home state. While in Indianapolis, he will join with 178 other delegates, representing more than 47,000 members in all 48 states, in formulating the policies and electing the officers of the world’s largest dairy cattle registry organization. The Association, a national organization with headquarters at Brattleboro, Vermont, registered an unprecedented 205,527 animals last year. Goshen Man Drowns At Wawasee Saturday Robert J. Whitehead, 41, well known Goshen Legionnaire, became the first drowifing victim at Wawasee Lake in a accident Saturday afternoon. Whitehead toppled into the lake while his boat was being towed to shore for motor repairs off the Oakwood Park shore. His body was recovered within five minutes but efforts to revive him by Syracuse firement failed and he was pronounced dead by Dr. Fred O. Clark. Coroner Orville Richter returned a verdict of death by accidental drowning. State police said that Whitehead’s boat was in tow by a speedboat operated by Harold Wilson, Elkhart. Investigating officers reported that Whitehead was changing seats in his craft when he lost balance and fell into the water. Members of his family said that he had gone to the lake alone Saturday to work on the boat. They also said he could not swim. Whitehead had partially completed building a cabin on the shore of the lake in Oakwood Park. Born 1 May 1916 in Elkhart, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jay Whitehead, he had spent most of his life in Goshen. He was an experimental technician at the Bendix Corporation, South Bend. Veteran of World War 11, Whitehead was a member of Goshen Post 30, American Legion, of which he was a past commander. He was also a member of the First Congregational Christian Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Lodge No. 12, F. and A.M., the Scottish Rite of St. Joseph Valley, and the Square and Compass Club, South Bend.
