Jr. Legion Baseball

Wawasee Post, 223" of the American Legion is again sponsoring a Junior Legion baseball team this year. One of the most important of its programs, Junior Legion baseball is nationwide. In 1956 there were 250 Junior Legion baseball graduates playing in major leagues. Some of the aims of the program are: 1. To provide recreation for the teenage boys of the community. 2. Team manager will be Dewey Laughlin, who is also athletic pfficer of the local post, Wawasee 223. Uniforms were purchased last year by the Legion with the aid of the following local merchants: Rose Jewelry, Overhead Door Co., Syracuse Rubber Co., Jones Turkey Farm and S&M Motors. Two Dumped In Luke When Boat Overturns Jeffery Chambers, 15, of Syracuse, and Mike Rowe, 15, of Anderson, escaped unharmed Saturday evening when the boat in which they were riding overturned and sank in Lake Wawasee. The craft, a $3,000 inboard speedboat, flipped into the air, came down on its bow and sank after throwing the two boys clear. Chambers, who was driving the boat, told Conservation Officer Ned Gerard that he hit rough water coming around Morrison Islaifd. The. boat, belonging to John Chambers of Syracuse, was down in about 10 feet of water. The boys were able to swim without difficulty to the nearby shore.
