Lovely Hats For Milady At Mothers Clubs Party

A profusion of fragrant spring flowers and blossoms bedecked the lobby and dining room of the Oakwood Hotel Monday night 13 May as members of the four Syracuse Mothers Clubs met for their first annual Spring Dinner Party. My Lady’s Chapeau, a subject dear to the heart of every woman, was introduced as the theme for' the evening as each guest was given a lapel card cleverly decorated with tiny jeweled and feathered hats. Members of the Intermediate Mothers Clubs, hostesses for the evening, served punch and canapes preceding the dinner hour, from a lovely table surrounded by apple blossoms and huge bouquets of purple lilacs. An enchanting spring garden, complete with picket fence dotted with flower blossoms, greeted guests as they entered the dining room. Gay red geraniums and green ivy plants placed behind the speaker’s table enhanced the picturesque setting, as did the dainty pansy plants arranged on each table. Favors were exquisite miniature hats in every rainbow color, each made with bits of lace, flowers and feathers and mounted upon a stand of matching hue. 1 Pansy and rose printed programs tied with colored ribbon also were at each place. Highlight of the evening was the modeling of the latest in spring and summer fashions in hats. My Lady’s Chapeau was shown in every color and style as models entered the stage in front of the lovely garden setting and revolved slowly to the soft back ground music of pianist, Judy Kline. Models were Mrs. Nelson Auer, Mrs. Noble Greene, Mrs. William T. Jones, Jr., Mrs. Wayne Tarman, Mrs. Charles Putt and Mrs. Paul Brown, co-owner of Robyn’s Hat Shoppe in Goshen, who furnished the hats, purses and gloves used in the show. Mrs. S. D. Myers was the fashion narrator. Two comedy skits, authored by Mrs. Frank Stafanski and Mrs. Harold Arnold, provided a light touch to the evening and enabled guests to see many of My Lady’s Chapeaus of the bygone days. Mrs. Robert Searfoss, toast mistress, introduced each club president, who then presented the gavel to the incoming president. Also introduced were Mrs. Noble Blocker, founder of the Syracuse Mothers Clubs, and Mrs. Loren Longenbaugh, kindergarten teacher, who received an appreciation gift from the Junior Mothers Club. Each out-going president was also remembered with a gift, as was Mrs. Byrum Conn, mother of the newest baby in the Senior Mothers Club. Past presidents are Mrs. John Roddie, Senior; Mrs. James Bender, Intermediate; Mrs. Avon Bushong, Junior; and Mrs. Charles Miller, Primary. Mrs. Gerald Bitner succeeds Mrs. Miller; Mrs. Jack Kimpel is the new Junior president; Mrs. Leo Kowallik is the Intermediate president; and Mrs. Joe Thdmburg will succeed Mrs. Roddie as Senior president. Mrs. Douglas Mock won a hat donated by Robyn’s Hat Shoppe, and a purse also donated by Robyn’s was won by Mrs. Gerald Hubart. , Door prizes were awarded to Mrs. Clarence Eby of the Primary Club; Mrs. Dean Pittman of the Juniors; Mrs. S. D. Myers of Intermediates; and Mrs. Lewis Cobbum of the Senior Club. Mrs. Vearle Gaff won the lovely centerpiece of flowers from the speakers table.
