Pay Mortgage On Syracuse Church The balance of the mortgage that was placed upon the Bethel of the First Church of God at Syracuse in 1952 at the time of the remodeling program, has been paid and released by Mr. and Mrs. Cressel J. Kitson. This was done in memory of M?> Kitson’s great-grandfather, Jeremiah Cory, who in 1848, erected a building for all worshippers and was instrumental in securing two 'more lots in Defrees and Mann addition where in 1863 the present Bethel was erected. It is also commemorating Mr. Kitson’s grandfather, Robert V. Cory, Mrs. Kitson’s grandfather, John Grady, the two Elders first elected when the church was organized, and their daughter, Genevieve Kitson Vorhis. Cressell Kitson served as elder for thirty years on the church council, also as Sunday School superintendent and teacher for many years, showing the respect and prestige of the church and community.-*. Exchange Student At E.U.B. Church Sunday The Calvary E.U.B. Church of Syracuse will hold its annual World Servlbe Day this Sunday with the Reverend Monfried Moessinger of Wolfartsweiier, South Germany, as guest speaker in the Morning Worship at 10:45 a. m. A member of the Evangelical Fellowship of Germany, Mr. Moessinger is privileged to spend one year in America through the courtesy of the Oversea’s Scholarship of the E.U.B. Church. He is a graduate of the E.U.B. Seminary at Reutlingen, Germany and is now studying at the Evangelical Theological Seminary at Naperville, Illinois for the purpose of becoming better acquainted with American theology and the American way of life. This coming summer Mr. Moessinger will be visiting a number of E.U.B. Youth Camps here in the United States. The public is invited to attend the service this Sunday. FORMER RESIDENT SUFFERS BROKEN HIP Mrs. Alice Cory, a resident of this community for 60 years, suffered a broken hip as a result of a fall in the home of her daugher, Ardeana Golden, in Willonghby, Ohio. Mrs. Cory, who will be 92 on 12 April, is hospitalized- in Lake County Memorial Hospital in Painesvilla, Ohio. She is the mother of Clea Strieby of Syracuse and Mary Ott of Fort Wayne.
Jones Poultry Merges With Goshen Firm Gaylord Jones announced this week that the Jones Poultry Company has merged with the Land of Goshen Poultry located in Goshen. Jones, who has conducted his poultry business for a number of years near the entrance to Oakwood Park, states that he will maintain an office in Syracuse and will continue to do business as before. Annual Chuck Wagon Supper At Foo & Faye's The Third Annual Chuck Wagon Supper, sponsored by the Methodist Nursery Guild, will be held 11 March at Foo and Faye’s Restaurant. Committees for the event, which has become a popular occasion in the community, have been announced by Mrs. H. Kirkdorfer, Guild president. Mrs. Faye Wong is general chairman of the supper, Mrs. Eugene Yoder is chairman of the food committee, assisted by Mrs. Robert Jones and Mrs. Jerry Grady. Mrs. E. Dale Smith is ticket chairman and Mr. Noble Greene is in charge of the music. Devotions are under the direction of Mrs. Eugene Hall and Mrs. Lewis Hastings. Mrs. William T. Jones, Jr. and Mrs. Paul Markley are the advertising committee. Tickets may be obtained from any Guild member. Minister Os Morris M. E. Chapel Resigns The Reverend Hillis L. Avery will hold his closing worship service at the Morris Chapel Methodist Church next Sunday morning 24 February. Rev. Avery, whose resignation will take effect at that time, has served this pastorate since 1 June 1955 from his home in Huntington, Indiana. Rev. and Mrs. Avery have expressed their gratitude for the splendid cooperation and good work accomplished during their association with this pastorate. The Averys plan a vacation trip to Florida and eastern United States very soon. It is expected that Dr. O. Wayne Paulen. district superintendent, will fill the vacancy as soon as possible. Adult Farmers Meet Tonight At School Milfred Richmond of the Albion Soil Conservation, Service office will give a talk and answer questions on “Liming and Liming Materials” Thursday at 7:30 p. m. in the Syracuse vocational agriculture room. All area farmers are welcome. No adult farmers meeting will be held on Thursday 28 February because of the Sectional Basketball Tournament to be held at Syracuse. RILEY MILLER FAMILY OBSERVES ANNIVERSARIES Mr. and Mrs. Riley Miller entertained at their home Sunday in honor of the birthday of Mr. Miller and his son, Victor, and Mso the Miller’s forty-first wedding anniversary. Besides Mr. and Mrs. Victor Miller and family of Elkhart, Mr. and Mrs. Lavon Miller and family, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Miller, all of Elkhart, were present and Mr. and Mrs. Howard Poe of Milford. The Miller’s anniversary was 16 February which also is Victor’s birthday. Mr. Miller’s birthday is the 15th of February. RECEIVES PROMOTION AND TRANSFER TO NORTHWEST Ted Stucky, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Stucky, has recently received a promotion from the Howell Mfg. Company in St. Charles which includes a transfer to the northwest where he will represent the company in the states of Oregon and Washington as well as Alaska and Canada. The company manufactures furniture. Ted and his wife and new son will move to Portland, Oregon in the spring. MANCHESTER BAND TO PLAY FOR SCHOOL ASSEMBLY Manchester 'College Symphonic Band will entertain the school assembly Tuesday 5 March at 8:20 a. m. Principal Glen Longenecker announced yesterday. The public is invited to attend this program.

Wednesday at the home of her son Ralph in Syracuse. , Th; widow of Rev. L. O'. Oyler, United Brethren minister, she had beer: in failing health three years and bedfast for six weeks. Bom in Amboy, Indiana, 9 November. 1866, she was the daughter of Thomas and Mary Jane (Snow) Woods. She was marr ed at Kokomo to Rev. L. O. Oyler 3 . June 1895. He served pastcrates at Berrien Springs, Clunette Ligonier, Bremen and Huntington and &as superintendent of the Warsaw-district church prior to his death in 1909. Nirs. Oyler operated a millinery shop in Warsaw for 16 yean, served on the Salvation Army beard from 1924 to 1929, and jvas branch treasurer of the Won,en’;> Missionary Society of the United Brethren Church from 1903 to 1923. She leaves a son, Ralph, of Syracuse; two grandsons and one gieat-granchild. Another son, Philip, and a daughter, Edith, p receded her in death.
