“PAPA WAS A PREACHER” The junior class of Syracuse School will present the religious comedy, “Papa Was A Preacher” on Friday evening 29 March at 8:00 o’clock in the auditorium. Philip Fawley will direct the play. Since this play is to be given during the Lenten season, the committee decided that a play of a more serious nature would be appropriate. The book, “Papa Was a Preacher,*’ was written in 1944 by Alyene Porter and was a best seller for some time. In 1954 John McGreevey, writing for the Dramatic Publishing Company, dramatized Miss Porter’ true story about her family. In this deeply moving and sometimes amusing story, Miss Porter shows vividly the trials and tribulations, the fellowship and devoting of family members to one another and happy times where her “Papa Was A Preacher.” EIGHTH GRADE CLASS Last Wednesday & Thursday we had our speyying bee eliminations. The final contestants will be Diane Martin and Jo Ann Karesh, 8-A, with alternate Margerie Edgar; and Donna Moots and Sue Ann Juday, 8-B, with alternate Shirley Levemier. It will be held 19 March in the old gymnasium. In general science we tested water for hardness and softness Tuesday. Boy, what a dull month ahead. -Bonnie Brouwer will be leaving Wednesday for Florida with her father.
