POWER TOOLS will play ever-increasing part in maintaining S2O billion worth of machines and equipment on nation’s farms, according to Neil C. Hurley Jr., (center), founder of the new Thoi Research Center for Better Farm Living, near Huntley, 111. Hurley is explaining to visiting Future Farmers the wide range oi possible farm uses for an electric drill which, with attachments, can even dig post holes.

Jeff Chandler and Dorothy Malone star in Sunday’s Pickoffering, “Pillars of the Sky.” Garden Notes Crocuses Crocus imperati and Crocus tonunasinianus are such brave little plants that it takes more than snow and cold wind to discourage them from visiting us almost before winter has entirely gone. Both very hardy. The first is colored rosy lilac, the second mauve. Next to bloom is Crocus Seberi, purple with orange throat; arid next to come is varigated Crocus, versicolor; and next is the golden yellow Crocus Susiana. Thus we have a fairly long season of beauty while the garden is nearly bare and skies are gray. If seeds are produced they may be planted out of doors, but care should be taken to protect them from mice. The young plants should be transplanted to permanent quarters the second or third year. Give them a gravelly soil containing much leaf mold, and they need a sheltered place in full sun. There are about 75 varieties of Crocus, all nice. Some are best for garden, some for indoor winter blooming. I would like to trade other plants for bulbs or seed of anw variety of Crocus. With employment at the highest point in history and at the highest wage rates ever, there is genuine truth in the statement that “labor never had it so good.” SeU It With A Journal Claaalfiod Adi
