"Ernie" Denari To Speak To Veterans If ..IB Kosciusko Barracks 83, Veterans of World War I has invited all Kosciusko County World War I veterans and American Legion | members to attend their June meeting. This meeting will be held at the American Legion 1 Home in Warsaw Wednesday , evening 20 June at 8 P. M. For this special guest night, the local organization has securI ed a very fine and forceful speaker, “Ernie” E. Denari, of I Indianapolis. Mr. Denari served with the A.E.F. in the 28th Divis- | ion until hospitalized. Following release from the hospital in October of 1918 he was transferred and served with General H. Q. ( LeMans forwarding camp until I the end of War I. Mr. Denari has long service in ! veterans’ affairs, in New York and Indiana. In New York he was a charter member of Sgt. Stainbeck post of thhe veterans of Foreign Wars and a vice commander of White Plains Post 125 of the American Legion. In Indiana he has served as commander of irvintgon Post 38 of the ; American Legion, publicity chair-! man of theh 11th district and 2 years as publicity chairman of, the Indiana Department of the American Legion. In the forty | and eight he is a past chief Dell Gare of Voiture 145 in Indianar | polis and served six years as grand publiciste of the Grand I Voiture Du Indiana. ' At the present time Mr. Denari is the 11th District commander of the veterans of World War I and also editor of the “Indiana | Bulletin”, the monthly publication of the Indiana Department of the veterans of World War I. This grand “Mr. Veteran” of Indiana will present a very timely message in light of the recent Bradley report to the president and the Congress. It should be of vital interest to all veterans of all wars. Refreshments will be served following the meeting. Expect New Drivers Sunday At Speedway A field of more than 30 cars is expected Sunday night for stock car events at the New Paris Speedway with competition open to modified stock and fender bender drivers alike. One of the top cards of the year was staged last Sunday and more new drivers are expected this weekend as one track gave up modified stock entries. Time trials are at 7:30 and the first race one hour later. On The Fairways SOUTH SHORE LADIES Playing Banker’s Handicap Tuesday at South Shore, Mary Jane Christine and Kay Smith tied for low net in the 18-hole play: and Carol Todd and Doris Kessler for low gross. Nine hole winners were Ruth Emerick—low net and Louise Stevenson—low gross. Luncheon was served at the clubhouse at 1:30 to the twenty members present. During the business meeting that followed it was decided to tee off the 18-hole play at 8:30 a. m. or earlier and the 9-hole at 10:00 a. m. Next week the game will be “Low Net Twosome.” Mary Jane Christine won the Fay Crocher at South Shore last Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. Harry DeHart, I Jr. and children, Denis, David, (Charles and Nancy, of Toledo, Ohio, were weekend guests of • Mr. and Mrs. Paul LeCount.
Mermaid Queen Flies To New York Saturday In an effort, to dramatize the Indiana lake region as a resort and vacation center, Indiana’s 1955 “Queen of Lakes.” 18 year old, blonde Barbara Bender of North Manchester chosen last year over 50 contestants to rule over the 11th annual Mermaid Festival, June 25-30, will start a pre-festival round of TV and social appearances on Saturday of this week, festival chairman, J. Homer Shoop, announced this week from North Webster. Highlighting the tour will be her appearance on Dave Garraway’s “Today” show over a nation wide T.V. program on Monday morning, 18 June between 7 A. M. and 10 A. M. direct from the N.B.C. studios in New York City. Before leaving for New York, I she will appear Saturday after- ' noon, 16 June with Mr. Shoop on WSBT-TV South Bend as part of a half-hour Mermaid Festival program from 3:00-3:30. After leaving the. W.S.B.T. studios, she will go directly to Soud Bend’s airport and leave by United Airlines at 4:20 P. M. The plane will stop in Fort Wayne where she will be joined by her sister, Bernadine, and North Webster lady lion’s queen committee chairman, Mrs. Earl Gerard and 10 year old granddaughter, Jo Ann Gerard, all of whom will accompany her on a week of shows and sightseeing in New York City. The group will return by United Airline to Fort Wayne on Tuesday, 19 June, arriving at 11:30 A. M. Mrs. Gerard will appear that afternoon on WKJG-TV Fort Wayne from 3:00 to 3:15 with several of the 1956 queen contestants.
