. John Peters To Run For Lt. Governor Illy WBiNF — ■ JBII! ■IaV JOHN PETERS Asserting that the “administration of our government, at all levels, has become so complex that governmental experience is essential for the holder of a major office,” John Peters, the present Treasurer of State, announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor. Peters made the announcement at an informal supper and rally to which he had invited all Republican workers and officeholders at New Albany in his home county of Floyd. Several G. O. P. leaders from other counties in the Eighth Congressional District also attended. / Peters cited his own long service in various offices, and explained that since he is now i the last year of the second o' two two-year terms as Treasurer he is not elgible for re-election to that position. He also said that “it is appar ent that the nominee for Governor will come from northern
Indiana. To maintain geographical balance it would seem logical for the nominee for Lieutehant Governor to come from downstate. He told his neighbors he would not accept any other nomination except that of Lieutenant Governor. “All signs points to continued progress and prosperity for Indiana. We must have firm and experienced hands directing the affairs of every branch of our state government if we are to utilize the great opportunity that is now ours.” Peters was bom August 31, 1900, at Elizabeth, in Harrison County, Indiana. He attended the public schools at Elizabeth and New Albany and then New Albany Business College. He is married and they have a son who served with U. S. Navy in the Pacific area in World War n.
