Francis McCarty In The Race Boomed as GOP Candidate
Francis T. McCarty, Brimfield farmer-industrialist has tossed his hat in the ring for this years ► governorship rate. As the news of his candidacy spread over the state Republicans from every sect on hailed McCarty as the phly governor candidate who can bring unity and harmony to the party and still give the vigorous leadership that will provide a winning candidate this fall. Fallowing a quick swing through Hoosier-land, he and his supporters found increasing sentiment in favor of his candidacy f->r> governor. Taking his campaign directly to the Republifccans in all walks of life, the Noble County Republican found that the people want the peace and prosperity of the Eisenhower Administration and an end to the intra-party bickering which has plagued the Republican Party. In discussing issues with the •people in all parts of Indiana, McCarty pledged his efforts to "unite all factions of the Republican Party and to work for strong, healthy Indiana government that will serve all of the people.” McCarty added that he will devote the next ten weeks to a concentrated drive to visit all 92 counties in Indiana discussing the political future of the Republican Party with everyone with whom he can come in contact. He declared that the forthcoming primary and general election next November are of the “greatest importance” to America. News of Service Men Army Pvt. Arnold G. Grindle, son of Mabel Weaver, Syracuse, Ind., recently was assigned to the 2nd Infantry Division at Fort Lewis, Wash. The “Indianhead” division is scheduled to move to Alaska in July and August as a part of Operation Gyroscope, the Army’s unit rotation plan. A construction specialist in Ist Battalion Headquarters Company of the division’s 23rd Regiment, Grindle entered the Army last January. The 22-year-old solider, son of Vem Grindle, Warsaw, was graduated in 1951 from Syracuse High School. TROOP THREE Troop 3 elected the following officers at the last meeting: President, Diana Lung; Vice President Sue Ann Adams; Sec-retary-treasurer, Larrena Laird, Reporter, Shirley Yoder, Program Chairman, Anita Rogers. It was undecided about having meetings in the summer. We decided to have a welner roast next meeting. i

EASTERN STAR MEETS Syracuse Chapter No. 283, Order of the Eastern Star held its regular meeting 11 April at which time Worthy Matron Mary Peters announced that Grand Chapter will meet in Indianapolis 24-25-26 April.
