A TRUE FISH STORY It isn’t everyone who can show real evidence of a good fish story but if seeing is believing then the brilliant sailfish gracing the wall of the Wawasee Restaurant is Dorothy Connolly’s proof of catching a 38 lb. sailfish off the coast of Florida last January. Not only is it a beautiful fish but its a good story, too.

Nonimate Local Girl For State Office Miss Suzi Klink, a sophomore at Syracuse High School was nominated for the office of State vice-president from the northern district of the Indiana State Future Teachers of America Association at the state convention at Terre Haute, Saturday, 14 April. Miss Klink was nominated by Terry McClintic, a junior of Syracuse High School. A nominating qualifications speech was given by Terry. The elections will be held at the Fall meeting at Indianapolis

Red Cross Drive Still Short Os Quota Paul Levernier, chairman for ■the local Red Cross Fund Drive, reports that in spite of the late start in this township the S4OO mark has been passed altho this amount is still considerably below the goal set. Total collections will not be available until final reports from solicitors are received and also, contributions from clubs. Since the drive was extended thruout the county into April, Che chairman urges that all contributions be turned in during the next week. 6 Lee Fischer New PTA President Lee Fischer was elected president of the PTA for the coming year at Tuesday night’s meeting in the school auditorium. Elected to work with him are: Mrs. E. L. Fosbrink, vice-presi-dent: Mrs. Frank Stefanski. secretary: and Robert Jones, treasurer. Purchase of $425 worth of books for the public library Was announced. This purchase was made possible by the proceeds from the 1955 Halloween celebation sponsored by the PTA at which $448 was cleared. HOWARD JUDAY INVOLVED IN SIX-CAR CRASH Damage of $2,200 resulted at 4:20 p. m. Tuesday when six cars piled up on U. S. 33, a mile and a half south of Goshen. All drivers escaped injury. Sheriff’s officers reported a car driven by Herman E. Gillman, 24 of Millersburg, Ind., had stopped on the road because of mechanical trouble. Howard Juday was one of four who had stopped for Gillman’s auto when a car driven by William R. Adkins, 54, of Columbia City, Ind., ran into the rear one and caused all the cars to collide. CHURCH CELEBRATES 100th ANNIVERSARY "Solomon’s Creek Evangelical United Brethren Church, located 3 miles north of Syracuse on State Road 313, celebrated its 100th anniversary Sunday with an all day meeting. There was a basket dinner at the noon hour. Rev. B. F. Smith, D. D. of Warsaw, distret superintendent of the Evangelical United Brethren church spoke at the evening service and Dr. Reuben H. Stiefel Firm To Correct Noisome Odors Goshen and South Bend newspapers reported yesterday that the town of Syracuse has halted action against the Stiefel Feed Co., at a “special” meeting of the Town Board held at the American Legion hall Tuesday night. The meeting was attended by a number of those who had petitioned the town to take action against Stiefel, and was an “invitational” affair. The company has taken the position that it can cure the noisome odors wth engineering work now in progress. Town Attorney Leon Connolly has agreed to a continuation of the suit pending the outcome of the company’s program. Joseph L. Announces Resignation Os Two Local Teachers Calvin E. Beck, township trustee, reported this week the resignation of Mrs. Frances Heaton, who has taught home economics this past year. Her resignation will become effective at the ewr of the term and is due to the health of her daughter who has been advised to live in another climate.
