25 Years Ago Mentone won the sectional tourney at Warsaw by defeating Milford 29-22. Fourteen teams participated. The games started Friday morning. Syracuse won over North Webster/20-18 in the first game and lost Saturday morning 26-25 to Mentone in a hotly contested battle. One of the worst blizzards in several years began Saturday morning making most roads almost impassable for returning tourney fans. It was Tuesday before roads were cleared sufficiently for normal traffic to be resumed. Forty-five men were employed Local News. . . Mrs. Leonard Cripe and daughters, Nancy, Pat and Marlene, spent the weekend in Indianapolis with relatives. Miss Sandy DeGroff spent the weekend with her mother and sister, Mrs. Leonore Hennessey and Norma, of Kimmell. Dean Ramsey and Gary Black of Columbia City were Sunday dinner guests. Mrs. Hennessey and daughters were supper guests of the Therol Blacks Sunday evening. Mrs. Ernest Bushong spent Monday and Tuesday attending the beauty show in Chicago an annual meeting which Mrs. Bushong has not missed in thirty-two years. Mrs. Mary Hoy and Miss Florence Foster accompanied her. Susie Lienhart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Lienhart of Wakarusa, summer residents at Lake Wawasee, has been named rush chairman of her sorority, Alpha Gamma Delta at Indiana University. Mr. and Mrs. Norman Robie and sons spent several days in Washington, lowa with Mrs. Robies parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stuckman. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Lantz, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Anglemyer and Mr. and Mrs. James Wilson left last Friday for Biloxi, Mississippi and plan to return Sunday 11 March.

by Trustee Dan Klink to help clear the township roads. The main topic of discussion at the Chamber of Commerce meeting Tuesday noon was the $50,000 fish hatchery to be built in Indiana this year. Plans were made to interest the U. S. Department of Commerce in locating it at Lake Wawasee and a questionaire was filled out for the District Superintendent of the Department. 15 Years Ago Pierceton’s powerful Cubs won the Warsaw sectional tournament by defeating Atwood 35-19. Nelson Hinderer won a threeclass spelling bee at the Pickwick Sandwich Shop. Runners-up were Jane Schultz and Bud Smith. Next week there will be a quiz contest. Added to the equipment of the local telephone office is a cable plow for use in this territory. As soon as weather permits, the company will start work on a project in the south part of town where lines will be placed underground. 10 Years Ago Work will start soon on the rebuilding of the Pickwick Block which was destroyed by fire Saturday 2 February. The Pickwick Theatre will open not later than 1 July. Barbara Paugh Wed In Church Ceremony Wedding vows were exchanged Friday evening by Miss Barbara Paugh and Howard Bashore in an informal double ring ceremony performed at 8 o’clock in the Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Eldon Evans of New Paris officiated. Music for the ceremony was provided by the pianist, Miss Mildred Bobeck. Ronald Wiggins of South Bend was best man. The bride’s only attendant was her maid of honor. Miss Shirley Bell of Syracuse. She wore a pink faille dress with matching hat and gloves and wore a corsage of pink carnations. The bridfe wore a pale blue faille dress with*a matching hat She carried a white Bible topped with carnations and pink rosebuds, tied with white streamers. Following the ceremony a reception was held in the church parlors. Serving the traditional wedding cake and other refreshments to the guests were Mrs. Lorrine Nicodemus and Mrs. Ronald Wiggins, sister of the groom; Miss Pegy Paugh and Mrs. Louis Kitchen, sisters of the bride; and Mrs. Richard Haberstich and Miss Judy Rockenbaugh. The couple'will reside at 613 Main Street, South Bend, near Memorial Hospital where Mrs. Bashore, a new Paris H. S. graduate, is a student nurse. Mr. Bashore graduated from Washington—Clay H. S. in South Bend; served four years in the U. S. Air Force and is now employed as assistant manager of a service station in South Bend. Completes First Part Os Training Course Miss Jane Kroh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Kroh, received the cap of the Indianapolis Methodist Hospital School of Nursing at exercises Friday night (2 March) in the hospital auditorium. Jack A. L. Hahn, hospital superintendent, presided and Miss Frederlcka E. Koch, director of the school, presented the caps individually. Ensemble singing by the school’s Choral Club, a candle-lighting ceremony and recital of the Florence Nightingale pledge contributed to an impressive occasion. Parents and friends who packed the auditorium were later entertained at a reception in Wile Hall, the nurses’ residence.

Girl Scout News.. Committee members of the three local Girl Scout troops met Wednesday 29 February at the Scout Cabin to make definite plans for several on-coming events. Girl Scout Week, 11 through 17 March, will start with all members and leaders attending th<E.U.B. Church. Services will open at 10:45 on Sunday 11 March. Plans were made for the local Girl Scout Cookie Sale to be held on Saturday 17 March, with all members participating. Posters made by members will be on display at an early date, giving full details. Final arrangements were made for the yearly trip to Pokagon State Park, which is scheduled for 14 and 15 April. Members attending the meeting were: Ina Clark, Betty Kline, Mary Jane Lantz, Jean Bender, Betty Wilson, Jane Anglemyer, Irene Clevenger, Ann Karesh, Dorothy Herdrich, and Jean Miller. Jean Miller PINK AND BLUE SHOWER Mrs. Robert Nicolai was guest of honor at a pink and blue shower Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Richard Brown. Chuck Wagon Supper Next Monday Night Plans for the coming Chuck Wagon Supper to be held on Monday, 12 March from 5 to 7 P. M. at Foo and Faye’s Restaurant, were discussed when the Methodist Nursery Guild met Wednesday night at the Syracuse Lake home of Mrs. Clyde Butt. Western music and cow girl waitresses will set the theme for this second annual affair. Plate dinners of either chicken and Noodles or hot dogs will be served, with baked beans, perfection salad, coffee or milk and pie or ice cream. Mrs. James Hughes, president, has appointed the following committee chairmen to assist in planning for the supper. They are Mrs. Foo Wong and Mrs. Jack Kim pel, general chairman; Mrs. W. T. Jones Jr., menu; Mrs. Eugene Yoder, decorator; Mrs. Gerald Cramer, tickets; Miss Kate Connell, Advertising; and Mrs. Noble Greene, enters tainment. Mrs. H. Kirdorfer and Mrs. W. T. Jones Jr. joined Mrs. Butt in serving a dessert of razzberry sherbert, cookies and coffee at the close of the business meeting. Mrs. James Hqghes will be hostess for the next meeting on 3 April. Home Demonstration Club Discussess Mental Health “Mental health is ’ living a happy, useful life and getting along with yourself and other people.” This and other definitions of mental health were discussed by the Oakwood Home Demonstration Club Tuesday. Twelve members attended the all-day meeting and enjoyed a pot-luck lunch at the home of Mrs. Edna Thomas. Mrs. Ronald Sharp led the morning discussion of characteristics of mentally healthy persons.
