Han Plowing Contest For County Farmers County Agent Paul Jackson announced Monday that a plowing contest will be held on Tuesday August 2 for Kosciusko County farmers. Plows with fourteen or sixteen inch bottoms may be used in the contest and each participant will be required to plow one-half of an acre. Contestants using two fourteens will "be given 66 minutes to complete their area Those using two sixteens get 58 minutes, three fourteens 44 minutes and thre sixteens 39 minutes. Scoring Method The contest is scored on furrow straightness, furrow conformation and uniformity, quality of tillage surface, trash coverage straightness of land ends, straightness and uniformity of dead furrow and head land, arid safety. Trash is to be completelycovered and the plowed area is to be uniform and rough to hold rain and snow. Entries for the contest must be in the County Agents Office by noon Saturday July 30 The winner of the county contest will participate in an area contest at LaGrange on August 23. The winner of the LaGrange contest will then participate in the national contest to he held in Wabash County on September 14. 15 and 16. Ist Toll Structure Completed Friday Completion of the first structure on the Northern Indiana East-West Toll Road was scheduled for Isist Friday, officials of the J. E. Greiner Company, engineering consultant on the project. have announced. It is a bridge which will carrytraffic on Indiana Route 3 over the toll road about a mile northwest of . Brighton in LaGrange County. Blacktop paving on the bridge was to be completed 21 July and the facility was then to be opened to Ind 3 traffic. The bridge is on a 12-mile section of the toll road being built, by the S. J. Groves & Sons Company of Minneapolis. Minnesota. There will be a total of 260 such structures on the 156-mile toll road to permit users of the road to underpass or overpass all intersecting highways, railroads and waterways. The toll road is not scheduled for completion until November. 1956. but a 50-mile section from the Ohio border west may be opened by mid-summer next year Married This Monday At Rev. 450 at E. U. B. Confab At Oakwood This Week
Approximately 450 young people are assembled this week at Oakwood Park for the Youth Assembly of the Indiana Conference North of the Evangelical United Brethren Church. The Assembly, which ends this Sunday, includes a workship program in the mornings and a recreational program for high school age and older Assembly delegates. Main speaker for the week is Dr Harry DeWire from the Theological Seminary in Dayton where he is professor of psychology. Dean of the leadership school in connection with the Assembly is the Rev. Lynn Henry of South Bend. The Rev. David Li v ingood. Youth Director fropt Kendallville. said that an interesting feature of the week is a water carvinal Saturday afternoon after the coronation of a king and queen of the camp. Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes, and LaMar Hughes all of Syracuse. < Spilled From Chair Fletcher Marsh. 47. of South Main Street, who is confined to a wheel chair, was spilled from his chair after hitting a rock on South Main Street at about noon July 21. A loose wheel or defective brake on the chair contributed to the accident. Marsh was assisted by passerby and Charles Harris, of the Carr Funeral Home, who took him home. He was up and about again the first of this week.

Hursh, and Miss Mary Miller, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Miller, of Wawasee and Goshen, were celebrated Saturday at the Syracuse Lake home of Dr. and Mrs. Hursh. Swimming, skiing at the Miller home, and dinner at Anita’s home, swimming again and dancing later when many boys came: watennelon. cokes, chips, peanuts, pretzels, cheese on the lawn, and a highlight in the many birthday gifts was records and records, thoroughly enjoyed.
