Highway Department To Buy New Mowers Seventy-two / rotary mowers to use in the maintenance of roadsides, are to be purchased by The Indiana State Highway Department Virgil Smith, Chairman, announced today. Rotary mowers, which were used experimentally last year, proved extremely satisfactory, and will be used in areas where heavy brush and seedlings make mowing difficult. Ninety-six cycle bar mowers, which cut a five foot swath, will be confined to areas that can not be reached by the rotary mowers. Mr. Smith said. Sixty of these will be used on old tractors which the Highway Department has on hand. The balance is the new hydraulically driven and controlled type, an innovation in mowers. The Highway Department is placing one of these new pieces of equipment in each of its 36 sub-districts to be used on an experimental basis. Conservation Division Clarifies Fish Laws Many inquiries have recently been received by the Indiana Department of Conservation regarding certain rules, regulations and laws concerning fishing licenses in Indiana. It is unlawful to fish without license, except children under 18 years of age. Owners or tenants of farm land and their families living .with them are exempt when fishing on their particular farm. Os course a license is not necessary to fish in private ponds, quarries, gravel pits. etc., which have no inlet or outlet, however, it would be embarrassing to be caught away from the, pond or off the private property with fish and fishing equipment. Boundary Exceptions When fishing the Ohio river from the Indiana shore, an Indiana license is required, however, if fishing from a boat, a Kentucky license is necessary. Along the Wabash where it forms the boundary between Indiana and Illinois, a license from either state will be recognized. When fishing from an Indiana shore or pier on Lake Michigan an Indiana license is necessary. Unlike many states. Jndiana’s non-resident fishing license costs little more than a resident license. A season non-resident license is only $3 while a fourteen day non-resident license may be bought for $2. A woman can get a resident license for fishing Indiana waters for sl.
