In. The Northeast (Corner (By BUI -Spurgeon) A week ago Sunday another columnist for this paper discovered us. along with several others from The Journal, eating in a local restaurant by means of chopsticks. Funny thing is, although we were probably the least adept at it of our group, nothing was said about ft by that columnist We got our training from W. W. Pauli and D. E. Woelfer last fail. Our dining companions the other day learned how from necessity—they had all lived in the Orient at one time or another. Personally, well stick to the American system. Our boxcars are back again. The eastbound siding of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad at Wawasee is just loaded with empty boxcars. These cars are unsightly and cause a traffic hazard at least one railroad crossing, but they represent a slack time in railroad revenue, and, after all. the railroad . has to keep’em somewhere!

Ice fishermen galore on Wawasee and Syracuse and even some of the frozen slips and channels last week. Topic of conversation .at Thornburg’s last Thursday morning, after the Groundhog saw his shadow and the weather had once again returned to zero,, was the possibility of driving a car out on Syracuse Take. Local experts agreed it might be possible in one or two places, but each acted as if he would rather someone else furnished the car. We ll stay on dry (and cold) land, thank you. Speaking of this business of driving out on the lake, we can remember hearing of people driving across from Waco to Kale Island on Wawasee. Anyone done this lately? Sounds a little too risky for our nature. Have heard rumors to the effect (even though a newspaper is no place to repeat rumors) that the Town Board is going to make a street light survey one of these days to determine what Syracuse needs. Syracuse does have good streetlighting in places—but in too many places it is not as good as the town deserves. Places with only 25 per cent of the population and less than 20 per cent of the business in Syracuse have better lighting downtown —some such places ’ being but glorified “wide spots” in the road. Our encouragement goes out to the Town Board in any endeavor to improve our streetlights.
Bowling News Ligonier Lanes Weatherhead League More changes and more ties broken—the Five Devils are still holding on to the lead and are steadily increasing their margin. The Five Rebels are still on the march as they took over second (dace, this week, from the Apple Knockers. Last week we had four teams tied, for last place but this week that dubious place of honor goes to the King Pins and from all indications their reign will be a long and unhappy one.
