Syracuse Bitten By Bulldogs The Yellow jackets were defeated by the Mentone Bulldogs Friday night, December 10, 50 to 41. Mentone, last year’s county and sectional champions, although hard hit by graduation, managed to outscore our locals by 9 points. This was Syracuse’s sixth loss; they have won two games. The locals will face two rough customers this week, Millersburg and Warsaw. Let’s get out and root our team on to a pair of victories. Mentone led our casaba toters throughout the game leading at the first quarter 19 to 9, the second, 28 to 22, the third 38 to 27. Ward led the Mentone scoring with 13 points, while Rickel, Romine, and Hoover all contributed 11 points. Denton led Syracuse with 17 points. The art department has done an admirable job with the construction of paper mobiles which hang in various places throughout the school. Art students are also responsible for the beautifully decorated Xmas tree, adorned with bright lights, tinsel, and all the “works." Something that should prove to be of interest to a great many people and especially music lovers - Mr. Willard Gustafson, director of the music department, is contemi plating the production of an | operetta come spring. Tell me. Terry and David. What was so interesting in that magazine you were looking so intently at in study hall last week? ' Have you been wondering why Charlotte Haffner, Casey Powell, and Dixie Dorsey seem to be talking to themselves? Chances are. they are memorizing the reading they are to give before the Senior Mothers Club, December 20. Charlotte will give the “Little Match-Girl.” Dixie, "The Fir , Tree." and Casey, "The Littlest Angel.” Following our Christmas vaca- . tion, December 23 to January 2. inclu., it is expected to have an . open house through the new grade school building. Only the grade rooms will be completed. The offices, gym. cafeteria, and the connecting hallway are still under construction. If everything progresses rapidly, the open house tour through the rooms, which will be! supervised by the respective teachers, will be a good oppor-, tunity for the parents of Syracuse to see the room that their children will occupy the following day. I Says Principal Glen Longenecker,' “This building is very beautiful| and something that everyone [ should be proud of." Chion Yellow jackets! Let’s sting ! those Warsaw Tigers! Best of Luck, fellows. We'fi be yelling for you! *- » The Roving Reporter Educational Program Thursday. December 9, the student body and the faculty met in the large study hall for another program. Mr. Longenecker introduced Mr. Clarence Harding,. a Public Relations man. who represents the South Bend Radio and Television Station. Mr. Harding gave an interesting talk on the fine points of television. such as the cost to put certain television programs on the network, the probability of colored television, the effect of television of movies, and the sale of newspapers, and magazines. ' Questions, which members of the faculty and student body had in regards to television, were asked and then answered by Mr. ; Harding. Dixie Dorsey Sixth Grade News Tuesday December "he seventh, our room had a meeting about how we were goingfrto decorate our room. The president of the class appointed a decorating committee. The boys and girls who are on the committee are as follows: the chairman is Diana Lung, others on the committee are Sherry Searfoss. Dolores Hapner. Rod Bo mi nan and Terry Markham. We in the sixth grade have brought clothing in to the school. We are sending the clothing to war-tom countries. This is a very worthy catise. The clothing, we had. was not so wonderful to us, but to the children who are going to wear and use it. it is wonderful. Our special thanks goes to the people that helped get the bundles ready. Last Tuesday night Syracuse defeated Milford 22-21. In doing this they led all but once in the game. S„ Red’s favorite actress is Marilyn Monroe. 1 His favorite actor is John Wayne. In the music department, he likes > Doris Day as top songstress, "The !
