Dewart Lake Mr. and Mrs. Richard Darr are entertaining house guests from Toronto, Canada. Mr. and Mrs. DeMille and Mrs. Thelma Anderson; and from Cleveland, Mr. and Mrs Rummers. Mr. and Mrs. L. Vane's daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Don Kirkdoffer and son Dale of Hammond, Ind., are vacationing at Dewart Lake. They will attend the wedding of Miss Nancy Pefelly at Elkhart Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Emil Hanson are building a home in Peach Lane, where they will reside permanently. Mr. D. Cecil, of the Cecil Food Processing Co., has announced that the plant will be ready to start packing tomatoes by August 23rd. They expect to be able to use some forty to fifty people at the peak of the sason. A high output is expected as there is a good crop of tomatoes this year, according, to Mr. Cecil. HUM 5

Firemen's Auxiliary Met August 5 To Aid Drive The regular monthly business meeting of the Syracuse Volunteer Fireman’s Auxiliary was held August 5 above the Wawasee Restaurant. Most of the evening was spent in preparation for mailing letters for the Syracuse Fire Department i in connection with the new tanker and in preparing cards for a new filing system which will aid the Department In pin-pointing a fire as soon as Vie allrm is given. Mrs. Betty Hughes’ mother, Mrs. Emily Zech, of Ft. Wayne was a guest at the meeting. The Auxiliary will meet again September 2nd. Syracuse Man Elected To Education Honorary Lewis S. Immel, of rural route 3, Syracuse, has been initiated by the Indiana University chapter of Phi Delta Kappa, national professional education fraternity for men. Hostesses Mrs. Joe Rapp. Mrs. Merton Meredith, Mrs. Melville Smith and Mrs. Robert Laird had arranged tablfe decorations of spider plants, snapdragons, gladioli, and roses. A chicken dinner was served. The door prize was won by Mrs. Charlotte McSkeeney who returned to the club after a long illness. L t Wysong Speaker Mr. Milt Wysong was the guest speaker of the evening and he complimented the club on its place in the community. Being a conservation man, Mr. Wysong eventually got around to fishing talk and told of several ways to be sure of catching fish. In a short business meeting, reports were made, projects discussed, and Mrs. Noble 'Blocker was appointed to choose her own committee to complete a project in three months.
