FIVE YEARS AGO Five Years Ago—Dec. 84. 194* Mrs Kenneth Hark leu was: htttess to the Syracuse Bridge elub at a one o'clock luncheon in her home Tuesday. The Hark* teas home was beautifully decorated In keeping with the season and a color scheme of red and blue was carried out. Prizes in bridge were won by Mrs. C. H. King, Mrs. Walter Kegg and Mrs. B. D. Hark less. The hostess also presented each one with a gift from beneath the Christmas tree. Mrs. Dorothy Harris and Mrs. Barry Appenzeller were guests. There was a very well-balanced entertainment at the High School building Tuesday afternoon. It appealed to every grade from first grade to’ Seniors and also a few visitors Rev. Koble gave a short talk of interest to all ages Besides a motion picture, there was a play by the Freshman class songs by a group of high school students, ending with a rousing singfest of Christmas enrols, led by Willard Gustafson j The leave taking was quite orderly for so many pupils. Vincent's church, Elkhart, on Christmas Eve. The Youth group of the Church of God met at the home of Vlrginia and Genevieve Dennison. Wednesday evening. A business meeting was held and election of officers resulted as follows; Robert Pippenger, president; Paul Yeager, vice-president; Genevieve Dennison, sec.-treas.. Julia Williams. assistant. '34, 1943 Charles Kroh and James Slnbaugh, students at Purdue, arrived home Thursday evening to spend a few days with their pari ents. ! The Turkey Creek ConservaI tlon club held their annual i Christmas party Dec. 15 at the club house. After a pot luck dln- | ner an evening of bingo was eni joyed. Six chickens were raffled off with a turkey as a door prise. Everyone brought grocery gifts which were exchanged after the bingo game. . John Grieger tried to give the family and friends a few pointers on skating Sunday—in fact he did it too. The lee was just swell and excepting for a few spills. John did all right Walter Kegg tried (not too hard)) to find 9 his skates but just couldn't locate them John says Walter "used to be" a good figure skater.

This meeting. 1 although being an annual event.' was voted as the “best Christmas part the club ever gave." Gaines and contests and story-telling, kept the time going fast, until the attention of the guests were turn-I ed towards the balcony, where a surprise for the club members was given by the Junior Ladies of the Round Table, who presented in a most charming manner, a playlet, entitled: "A Watch.
