ry ~ ifllsanDßV's r ’HI SERmOh Rev. Robert H. Harper "Tby Kingdom Coma." Lesson for December 27: Matthew <: 9-10; 28: 16-20; John 17: 18-21; Acts 1: 6-8; Revelation 11: 15b. Golden Text: Revelation 11: 15. The first passage of the lesson text Is a part of the Lord’s Prayer and includes the address and petitions that refer to the kingdom. In these petitions we find the substance of ail prayer—“ Thy kingdom come and thy will be done.’ They commit one who prays to all the work of the kingdom and bring Mm into a covenant with God to do his wifi. In the five last verses of Matthew we see Jesus with the disciples just before his ascension. Then we hear his last command: “Go ye." They were to make disciples of all nations, set up the kingdom. In what has been called the "high-priestly prayer” of Jesus just before he went into the garden of Gethsemane, he prayed that his disciples might be one in him and witness to the world that Jesus was sent of God. After the resurrection, the disciples asked Jesus if ho would at that time restore the kingdom to Israel. There was some thought, no doubt, of the earthly kingdom. Jesus told them it was not for them to know the times and the seasons But they would receive power after the Holy Ghost had come upon them And not many days thereafter the Holy Ghost came upon them and prepared them to go forth to turn the world upside down Finally, we read in Revelation that the kingdoms of the ». d will become the kingdoms of the Li rd and his Christ Solomon’s Creek E. The Mystery Os The Incarnation. Let us for a little while withdraw our minds from temporal things, and to contemplate the mystery of our Lord's birth. The Son of God came down from Heaven, that we might receive the adoption of sons. God became man. that man might become partaker of divine grace and of divine nature. Christ chose to be born into the world in the evening of the world's life, to signify that the benefit of His incarnation pertain not to the present life, but to eternal life.; He was born of a Virgin to signify that He is born in the hearts of spiritual virgins only, in those who are not joined to the world, but to God by one spirit. born pure and holy that He might sanctify our impure and defiled birth. He is born in Bethlehem the house of bread, who brought with Himself from heaven the bread of life for our souls. He is sent from heaven as the messenger of redemptive grace, because no one on earth knew of Its exceeding greatness. This great wonder is first announced to shepherds. because as the true shepherd of souls He had come at that time to bring back His lost sheep into His fold. The angel bids the shepherds Fear not.” because of the birth of Him Good Tidings of great joy are announced. as the .author of all joy was born into the world. “Glory to God in the Highest,” they sang. The birth of Christ brot true peace to men. who w-ere at war with their own consciences, and at variance among themselves. Let us at this nativity season rejoice with the whole multitude of the heavenly host. Thank God for the Prince of Peace Is born anew in our hearts. ?
