The first class B main event was flagged on the third lap due to the crash and spin of Dick Parrish of Churubusco, who was left stranded in the middle of the track on the back stretch. Circle 3 Ford received the checkered flag and was followed by Dale Shroder ot So. Bend, Art Hall of Mongo, and Lou Buirley of Elkhart. No time given due to the re-start. Bob Wiles of Syracuse, driving the fast Slabaugh-Yoder Special No. 12 was far the fastest car in time trials with an 18.07.. Wiles was awarded a beautiful trophy and double points. He was followed by Tully. Twalts, and Eppert. The time for the 27 laps was 9:i5-8:34. About 50 cars were on hand for the champ affair with 46 of them qualifying. At least a dozen cars were involved In crashes but the sensational leap through space and taking out four guard rail posts on the west turn went to Earl Lotter of Columbia City in the No. 112 job. None of the drivers were forced to receive medical attention. Winners of the four ten-lap heat races were: Bob Wiles. Syracuse. No. 12; 3:09:12. Doc Rush, New Buffalo, Mich., No. 28; 3:17:40. Lou Buirley, Elkhart. No. 032. Cliff Asher. Rome City, Circle 3; 3.25:14. The 6-car .fast race of 6 laps was taken by Russ Siders of Osceola. Slow car race of B laps was won by Cliff Asher. About ten women drivers were on hand to qualify for the coming Woman's Championship race in. which 20 cars will start. About 12 women have passed their drivers test whiatris far beyond the ability of the average woman driver and with 8 more to fill out the 20-ear field. Mr. Hamsher will announce the much-waited Fair Sex Auto Derby which no doubt will ’be announced this Sunday night at the New Paris Speedway.

RESULTS OF WEEK END GOLF EVENTS AT SO. SHORE 18 hole medal play handicap: 1. Roy Bergman, 77-l(hS7. 2. Hank Guipe, 83-15-618. 3. Ed Smith, B’4-15-69-. Fewest number of putts on 2nd nine: Ben Herscher, Frank Putt, Joe Linfor, Roy Smith, Bill Holtsinger and Leo Burke all had 14. Deuces were scored by: Bob Mardis, Joe Brandford, Hank Guipe 2, Joe Linfor 2. In the breakfast team match Sunday morning the black team captained by Dick £rior defeated the red team by the score of 36 to 27. Lowest score of the week end was a 66 and a 67 shot by Joe Campbell. The Mermaid Festival Open Golf Championship will again be held at South Shore on June 24. $1400.00 In cash and prizes will be given awgy. The tournament is open to both professionals and amateurs. SARA-CUSE SAYS The Lakes were much patronized at the week end; at least one car and usually two or three at nearly every cottage. The State Fish Hatchery picnic tables did a rushing business on Sunday. A new use has been found for a lawn mower. John Roddie Jr. was seen recently riding his wagon “at ease”, while being propelled by the power lawn mower. Jim Miner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett Miner, Syracuse Lake, works at Macy s Slip, races his outboard boat. "Shivers,” on many waterways in the States. Texas was about the farthest from home for a race last year. Saturday at Indianapolis on White River, Jim, the youngest driver there, won firsts in both heats of the Class A stock utility event in the East-West outboard regatta. This and Sunday’s races were sponsored by St. Margaret s Guild and Central Indiana Boat Club. Sundays' races made a double winner for the second day in a row. The Indianapolis Star said, "Miner s four firsts in two days stamped him as the winningest driver in the regatta field so nearly 90 pilots and 150 boats,” and incidentally made a little haul in prize money. Jim's parents, and usually his sister, or whenever possible some other race fan, accompany him on his trips. Sister Mary sometimes competes in- the “Powder Puff events’. Eric Larson, who also works at Macy’s and inclines to sailboats, went along the Sunday before to Lansing where Jim chalked up juiother win. Everyone always has plenty of food, for Mrs. Miner sees to that, even to extra cookies for other pilots. Working around Macy’s boathouses and waterways on Wawasee keeps Jim in trim, evidently. Mrs. Millard Hire went to Oberlin, O. .Tuesday to bring home her daughter, Sasha Ann, a student at Oberlin college, for the summer. Four-H Club Round-Up time will soon be here. More than 2,s<M> boys and girls over Indiana will throng to Purdue University on June 9. 10 and 11 to take part in a program highlighted by inspirational speakers, parties, agricultural contests and entertainment. This is the 35th year for the popular event.

SYRACUSE LAKE Potowatomie Park.—Mrs. Eugene Yoder underwent a major operation Tuesday at 7:30 a. m. Dr. Yoder expected to remain with her at least until Friday. The children are with friends in Warsaw. Front Street. — Mr. and Mrs. Ed Kleinknight were week end hosts to Mrs. Kleinknight’s sister, Mrs. Aubrey White, Mr. White, Karen and Cheryl, of Ossian. Karen stayed on as house guest for a few days. The Alva Nicolai’s had as guests at the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hudson, Mary Eileen and Pamela of Elkhart. Mrs. Louie Nicolai’s sister, Mrs. Walter Fitzimmons and her four boys, and niece, Mrs. Beverly Williams and her two brothers were guests also, and from Newcastle, Penn., were Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grische. This week end guests will be Mrs. Nancy Lee Trovatore, Linda, Becky Ann. and Michael of Elkhart. Potowatomie Park. — Mr. and Mrs. George Everett were hosts to Col. and Mrs. C. J. Kjelseth, who stopped over on their way to New York. The Colonel and his lady left Wednesday and their destination is Robart, Africa. They will be about 900 miles from Tripoli, where Mrs. John R. New York, where she accompanied Mrs. Cockley on her way to Tripoli. DEATHS MRS. G. S. GRUBB Mrs. G< S. Grubb passed away early Tuesday evening at the Austin Home in Goshen, after an extended illness of several months. Mrs. Grubb had made her home for the past three years with her daughter, Mrs. Harold Overstreet, of Kale Island, coming here from Marion, Ind. Mrs. Grubb was the widow of the late Dr. G. S. Grubb, who had practiced optometry in that city for over fifty years, until the time of his death in 1948. She is survived by the daughter, one son James of Marion, two brothers in Indianapolis, and one sister, at Warsaw. The body will be at the Diggs Funeral Home. <504 W. Third St.. Marion, and burial will be in the Grant Memorial Cemetery there. WAWASEE MAN DIES AT MARION Funeral services for B. L. Haram, Marion industrialist and summer resident at Pickwick Park. Lake Wawasee, who died Saturday at his home at Marion, were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Westminister Presbyterian Church. Burial was in the family mausoleum in the IOOF cemetery at Marion. A native of' England, he had resided in Marion since 1925. Mr. Haram was president of the Economy Box and Pie Plate Co. and president of the Washington Theatre Co. He was a director of the Osborn Paper Co. and the Spencer Cardinal Corp. Survivors include the widow, three daughters and a sister.

Pink and Blue Shower Mrs. Iva Dettwiler* assisted by her daughter, Nancy, gave a surprise Pink and Blue Shower last week for her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ivan Dettwiler, at her home. The party room was decorated in pink and blue, with streamers to all parts of room, from the center of attraction, a baby bassinette which held the gifts. Mrs. Ivan Dettwiler is from New York, and met Ivan when he was Radar Third Class Ivan Dettwiler. He was released from the Navy after 4 years of service last September, and is now working at the Weatherhead Company. When the many lovely gifts were opened, Mrs. Dettwiler was assisted by her husband, much to the delight of the guests. Games were played and prizes won by Mrs. Junior Wertenburter of Leesburg, and Mrs. Roswell Robbins of Columbia City. Thedoor prize was won by Mrs. Ida Weaver, of North Webster.
