SENIOR MOTHER’S CLUB “Love Makes The World Go Round,” was the theme at the Senior Mother’s Club meeting Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Muriel Sharp. Mrs. Ruby Worth had the program, and presented it very ably with a serious and also a humorous angle. Mrs. Worth found “Love,” in the Bible, and several dictionaries; and said in part, “that there is a love we can all share as commanded from the Bible,” and that “Charity is love,” explaining it from the 13th chapter of Corinthians, and from the dictionary — Love is “a strong feeling of affection” — brotherly love, good will, universal love, and willingness to see and appreciate various things, and the human part of life”. The next part of the program must have had a theme “Love makes the world go round—and round, and roundV for a short skit put on by Mjrs. Worth, as “Jeanette”, and Mrs. Leonard Barnhart as “Gertie:” Jeanette was a customer in a millinery shop, waited on by Gertie, the saleslady. Jeanette, busily chewing gum, apparently a whole package of gum, and in between “chews,” tried on hat and raved about her boy friend, Joe, home from college, gossiped about ‘Jane and Fred’, did you hear, etc., and said she, Jeanette loved to go to the movies, and loves the younger geneneration, that, “they were different in a lot of disrespects” (which brought down the house), and finally Gertie got in a few words between spells of trying hats on.-her customer, that is, shoving a hat on her head, and roffghly pulling it off! Finally Gertie became so annoyed she started a bum’s rush to put Jeanette out. Jeanette, however, stood her ground, stating she had just been ‘rootin’ for Joe so as to find out the state. of Gertie’s affections, and fix things up for Joe, so they made up, so “Love does really make the world go round”! After the din of applause finally died down, the Project Mrs. Vern Brinkman sounded the call, “Make your bids, ladies,” in the Silent j Auction of many choice items brought by club members —canned fruit, vegetables, dainty hankies, yum yum cakes, cookies, doughnuts, pies, etc. Spirited bidding was entered into by the twenty-five members and a guest, Mrs. Raymond Dudderar, amid much merriment, and eventually the ‘spoils’ were divided. Refreshments of cherry pie, cheese cut in hatchet shape and coffee were served by Mrs. Muriel Sharp and co-hostess, Mrs. Ray Meek. From the evident enjoyment of those present, even George Washington could not have had more delicious cherries. I SYRACUSE LAKE Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Miles visited Saturday in Indianapolis, taking their week end guest, Miss Esther Hoover, Nappanee teacher. They visited Margaret Miles in her ‘shared apartment’, where Margaret chef-hostessed the dinner. The Ed Kleinknight family visited in New Haven Sunday with friends, Mr. Mrs. Harry Parent. Sunday callers at the Olen Keim home were Mr. and Mrs. Ed Cripe, Cheryl, Gregg and Debbie, of Goshen. PAPAKEECHIE LAKE Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Etter were hosts to Mrs. Etter’s aunt, at the week end, Mrs. Earl Bogan, and Mr. Bogan of Michigantown. Mary Lou Denzel has transferred from Indiana University to Indiana University Extension Center at Fort Wayne. Mr. Raymond Denzel has just returned from a business trip through Illinois, lowa and Wisconsin. The H. A. Burson’s were week end hosts to their grandson, Bob and his mother, Mrs. Ann Burson, of- Chicago. CANASTA CLUB MEETS The Beach Combers Canasta Club met for the monthly all-day meeting and luncheon at the home of Mrs. John Runge on Wawasee Channel. Mrs. Paul Christine and Mrs. Harry Musser, celebrating birthdays were duly honored, First prize was won by Mrs. Christine. The members of the club are Mrs. John Runge, Mrs. Elmer Schoeff, Mrs. Fred Banta, Mrs. Floyd Green, Mrs. Paul Christine, Mrs. Raymond Denzel, Mrs. Gene Hattersley and Mrs. Harry Musser of Garrett.
