They called their son “Master” Joseph Oliver Shewman. In later life he was nicknamed ’“Joe”.

The topic was “Govern Thyself and You Will Be Able To Govern The World.” Pat Kitson, Janet Kitson. Audrey Hamman, and Eric Larson were the discussion members, with Jane Kroh as moderator. After the group gave their views on the topic, the audience asked questions and parI ticipated in the discussion. The “Speak-Easies” wish again to . thank the Senior Mother’s Club. The Cromwell Spartans will! invade the Yellow Jackets, this Friday night, Feb. 9th, at the Syracuse gym. The Etna Green quintet proved itself to be one of the leading teams in the county by defeating the Yellow so soundly. They led the Jackets throughout the game. They took an early lead in the first quarter with the score 18-10. Klinefelter let! the Cubs with 10 points in the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets were only able to score 6 points in the second quarter. The Ctißs had the Yellow Jackets doubled at half-time, 32-16. Syracuse was only able to score in the single figures in the third and fourth quarters. Syracuse showed one of their poorest defensive and offensive games of the season. Stouder led the Cubs with 7 points in the third quarter. The score sit the end of the game was Etna Green. 55, Syracuse 32. Dick Losee scored the only two points Sin the overtime tor the Yellow Jackets. Losee and Stahly had 9 points each for the Yellow’ Jackets. Cullen and Corney had 6 points each fdr the Bulldogs. G. A. A. MEETS The G. A. A. meeting was opened February sth by the president, Jane Godschalk.. Roll call was taken and then a motion was made and agreed upon to have a kick-ball game instead of a basketball game. The .two team captains chose new squads and kickball was then played. | Darlene Roger’s team won with a score so 35 to 10. After the game a short business meeting was called by the president. A stunts and tumbling program, in which all of the girls in G.A.A. will take part, will be given sometime in March. A committee was chosen to make plans for the program. Those on the committee are Linida Trout, Caroline Coil, Bea Bachman, Jane Godschalk and June Jeffries. The meeting was then adjourned. NEWS This Friday evening the grade band will play before the Crom-well-Syracuse game. Each member has been working hard, with the aid of the parents, to put on a good performance. The band consists of students from the fifth and sixth grades, with the help of x Jimmy Connolly and Jimmy Casky on the snare drums, and Melody Ann Gustafson leading the group. ’ Much enthusiasm has been shown on the part of the students and we hope to give the patrons a fair idea as to what goes on each Tuesday and Thursday morning at the grade building. NEWS The Past Matrons Club held their February meeting in the home Os Mrs. Joe Rapp, with Mrs. Albert Emerson assistant hostess. The meeting was opened and the business conducted by the president, Mrs. A. L. Miller. Fourteen members responded to roll call. Following the adjournment a social hour was enjoyed. A photograph of the vintage of 1928 was passed causing much hilarity, after which tripoli was played. Prizes were won by Mrs. Ida Hamman, Mrs. Edith Harley, Mrs. Ruby Worth, and Mrs. Joe Bushong. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostesses, after which all members went on an observation trip of Mrs. Rapp’s new and beautiful kitchen?
