Mr. Byler has his own workshop in the garage, where he will do any needed repair work on outboard motors, reels, and such things. IDEAL BEACH — Mr. and Mrs. C. A. with an informal dinner, last Sunday evening. The guests were, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whaley, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Ferguson, and Mr. and Mrs. Ott Miller. Canasta was the order of the evening. KALE ISLAND — “Open House” will be held Sunday, May 28th at “Rainbow Corners”. Bob Searfoss’ cabins, just across the channel bridge, on Kale Island, will surely be a haven for families. Families are actually welcome, and Mr. Searfoss backs his. statement, by being prepared to bring forth, as needed, small cribs, play-pens, and high-chairs. He has been preparing a safe playground supplied with swings, teeter-totters, and sand-piles. Each of the four jewel toned cabins, is a jewel in itself, with indirect lighting, flush with the ceiling, four bunks, shipshape, adequate closet space, electric refrigerator, all aluminum utensils, stainless steel silverware, pretty colored dishes, rounded dining corner, (sponge rubber used for comfort) and the kitchen just right. Unusual, well thought out ideas thruout are of a high type, and everything is brand new, even to the steel boat, for each cottage. A place has also been set up, for cleaning fish, there is a fine utility building, well equipped with bathroom and laundry facilities. Rainbow Corners will be a bright spot in some famine’s lives, as they find their children are welcome, instead of forbidden. OGDEN ISLAND — The Fay Ensmingers, .of Indianapolis, were at their cottage, last week-end and brought their friends, the Bradley’s and the Hoover’s along, as guests. The hosts, and the guests, all set to work with paint brushes and now, the whole cottage has an entire new “paint look”. Mrs. Ensminger’s mother, Mrs. Vasbinder, of Indianapolis, was also a guest, but her role was “lunch-getter-upper”, and “paint job admirer.” Mr. and Mrs. Garland Twaddles, Goshen, attended the funeral of Mr. Twaddles’ mother, who died last Monday, and was buried on Wednesday, in Goshen. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Laughlin, are in their cottage for the summer. As yet, they have not had much actual vacation, for their time was spent, cleaning up the yard, etc., getting ready for the season. PLEASANT GROVE — Mrs. Sam Houser, and Ruth, visited in Garrett, with Mrs. Alma Houser, last Sunday afternoon. Kenneth L. Felts, administrator of the estate of Pheba Felts, has filed an action in circuit court asking authority to sell lots 5, 6 and 10 in Winsor’s addition to Syracuse. The administrator said the sale would be necessary to create funds to pay estate obligations, personal property being insufficient for that purpose. The property is valued at $3,000. Named as defendants are the heirs, Nelson, Kenneth, Gene and Danny Felts. Mrs. Nelson Felts and Mrs. Kenneth Felts are named as party defendants. iiiiiiiimiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin HUBER’S CABINET SHOP Custom Cabinets Dinette Sets Sink Tops Milford, Ind. SCRIPTUBE: Micah, especially 4:1-5: 5:3-4; 7:18-20. DEVOTIONAL READING: Psalm 11: 1-7. God Has a Plan Lesson for May 28, 1950 GOD HANDS DOWN no blueprints. He never yet has been willing to save any man the trouble of thinking. The Bible 13 God’s guidebook, and in it is revealed God’s will But‘it is not a guidebook of such a sort that you can
take it from the shelf and look up in it the answer to every one of your problems in detail. Nevertheless the Bible is a guide, “the infallible rule of faith and practice” as some churches express it.
Dr. Foreman
God’s will is shown there plainly enough so that we can know whether we are building on the right foundation or not. • • • Sins Into The Sea NOW THE PLAN of God is so simple, that is, it can be so simply expressed, that one is almost tempted to say, “Oh, that!” as if it were something we knew already. Well, we do know it. But the thing is, we don’t do it. Part of God’s plan for mankind, a very important part, in fact in-dispensable-something the Bible talks about from the beginning to end —is this: The forgiveness and the destruction of sins. (Micah 7: 18-20.) Now everybody can see others’ sins. The Romans used to say that every man carries others’ sins in a bag in front of him where he can see them very well, but his own sins he carries in a bag hanging down his back where he cannot see them. We are all in favor of other people’s forsaking their sins. But how about you? The world does need to confess its sin; but you need to confess your own. No sins walk by themselves; sins exist only in sinners. Sin does not commit itself. Sin is something a sinner does. We shall never get rid of sins by exhorting other people. We get rid of them by repenting in the presence of God and receiving his forgiveness. It is always so easy to think: If we only had a good society we could have better people. That is backing into an idea the wrong way. The right idea is: If we have better people we shall be on the way to the good society. e * * If Not Peace, Then What? WE ALSO KNOW something about God’s plan for society at large. The Bible does not leave us in the dark. One thing that Micah brings out is the Ideal of peace. (Micah 4:1-5.) So long as we are making war, preparing for and expecting war, doing or saying things that make war inevitable or even likely, we are out of line with the will of God. Conversely, whatever we do to foster peace is in line with the plan of God. War was bad enough in the days of Micah; it is incalculably worse today. War always was the effect and cause of hate, it always brought suffering and death, war seldom settled anything. But this is the atomic age. Dean Rusk of the U.S. state department has said that in all present - day discussions we have to remember one solemn fact: The human race now has in its hands the means of its own total destruction. Any war nowadays is a war against the whole human race, for any large-scale war with atomic weapons may well make the entire globe uninhabitable by man. A voice for war is a voice for universal death. • • • Christ The King SINLESS MAN in a warless world: such is God’s plan. Is this possible? Only on one condition; that Christ shall be king. (Micah 5:2-4.) This has two meanings, one far-off, and one near; one complete and one partial. The far-off, completed meaning (which may be nearer than we think) is that after the history of this planet is over and done with, in the “new heavens and the new earth” the final destiny of God’s people is to live under the Lord Christ as leader and king. The nearer, here - and - now meaning of Christ’s kingship is this: Wherever, in the plans of men, the spirit of Christ, his ‘way and his ideal, are being trampled on or ignored, there God’s plan is forgotten and there disaster is certain. But wherever the spirit of Christ is in control, there God’s Dian is being carried out and there the Kingdom of God is coming nearer.
