MERMAID FESTIVAL PLANS PAGEANT OF FLOATS & BANDS FOR GALA QUEENS PARADE The Mermaid Festival Parade committee have completed plans for a mammouth Queen’s Parade to be held Friday evening, June 30th at the Mermaid Festival in North Webster beginning at 7:30 P. M., immediately preceding the “Queen of the Lakes” bathing beauty contest, it was announced today from North Webster by John Herrmann, Chairman of the Mermaid Festival. With a pageant of bands and advertising floats the committee hopes to dramatize and display the entire recreational facilities which the lake and resort region have to offer the vacationist, resorter, fisherman, sportsman, and tourist. committee invites the entire resort region to participate. The Committee invites clubs, lodges, boat companies, sporting good stores, resort hotels, drive-ins and restaurants, golf and country clubs, boat and yacht clubs, conservation clubs, miniature golf courses, amusement parks, racing associations, riding academies, chambers of commerce, theatres, bands, factories, lumber yards, lake lots and real estate developments, merchants and any others interest to enter a float or display in this giant, gala parade. Some 25 northern Indiana communities will be represented in this Queen’s Parade with a chosen girl from their city or town. Each community’s queen in a separate shiny decorated convertible car will ride atop the back seat of her
convertible displaying the name of her town on a ribbon banner across her bathing suit. Bands of surrounding high schools and other bands are being invited to join in the parade. Any firm, business, store, factory, club or lodge in any way interested' in the resort and recreation trade of the area desiring to enter a banner, sign, display or float in this giant pageant and Queen’s Parade may do so. The Queen’s Parade and the “Queen of the Lakes" bathing beauty contest immediately following on Friday evening June 30th, are expected to be two high lights of a full week of Mermaid Festival events running from June 24th to July Ist. Thousands of persons will not only serve to coordinate and dramatize the complete and varied advantages of the Northern Indiana resort region but likewise will dramatize the firms or groups entering floats or displays. Members of the Mermaid parade committee are: Thurlow Stiers, Fred Blosser, Earl Himes, Earl Uhgericht and Paul Royer. Little Charles Casey Kroh spent the time with his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kroh, in Syracuse. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Freeman and daughter, Margaret, were also guests in the Kroh home. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Francis, who have spent the winter, in Lake Worth, Fla., plan to return to Syracuse, next week. Mrs. Marie LeCount fell, in the yard at her home south of town, on Wednesday evening of last week, and fractured her leg just above the ankle. She is confined to her bed in her home. Mrs. Reginald Mallett, of South .Bend, was hostess to three ladies, from Welmington, North Carolina in her Lake Wawasee cottage last week. On Thursday evening, Mrs. Matt Abts entertained, Mrs. Mallett and her guests, at dinner. CYNTHIA ANN FREVERT WELL BE “MISS SYRACUSE” AT MERMAID FESTIVAL Announcement has been recceived from the Mermaid Festival Queen Committee that charming, popular Cynthia Ann Frevert has been voted “Miss Syracuse” by her school mates. Cynthia Ann Is 17, a senior at Syracuse high school, and the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frevert of Syracuse. She has light brown hair and sparkling blue eyes. She stands five feet 4-H inches tall and weighs 120 pounds. For the past three years she has been a yell leader for Syracuse high. She is a good singer and has played the bass drum in the band for 4 years. Interest in Syracuse is also centered around the beauty contest for the. Selection of “Miss Wawasee” will likewise be a contestant for the “Queen of the Lakes” title at the Mermaid Festival contest. June 30th.
