On submarine duty in the Pacific war theater, Miller was first reported as missing in action in November, 1944- His wife and son, reside here. DEATHS YEAR’S ILLNI SS TAKES LIFE OF LAKE WAWASEE RESIDENT Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Klingerman, (I, who died at her home opposite the Johnson Hotel, Lake Wawasee , Saturday morning, were held at 1:30 o’clock Monday afternoon in -he Henney Funeral Home. Burla was made in the McClintic Cenetery. near Lake Wawasee, witli the Rev. Leatherman, pastor of the North Webster Methodist Church, officiating. Surviving are her husband, Milo; her father, Fred Kline, of Wolf Lake; and oie sister, Mrs. Roy Frederick of Mishawaka. Howard, Syracuse, has filed suit for divorce in circuit court against Charles Wallace Howard, Syracuse plumber, alleging cruel and inhuman treatment and abandonment and asking alimony of SIB,OOO. They married Dec. 22, and separated June 5. 1940. request. Judge Sloane issued an order restraining Mr. Howard from disposing of property and set a hearing to determine whether the order should be continued as a temporary injunction Feb. 25. PttBEBBS BMkAiM PROGRAM IS ADOPTED flt CONSERVATION DEPARTMENT A research program almfed at uncovering some reasons why fishing isn’t better in Indiana will be conducted thia spring by the Indiana Department of Conservation. The program, announced today by Milton Matter, department director, will be under supervision of Dr. William E. Ricker, director of the Indiana Lake and Stream survey. Cooperating axe . Harry Young; supervisor of hatcheries for the Conservation department, and Donald Hughes, director of fish and game. . Main experiments will be carried on at the Maxincuckee Fish and Game Club ponds near Culver. recently transferred to the department by the club for use as an experimental station. Research on proper combinations of fish per water acre and on fertilSltion will be carried on in the nine ponds at the experimental station. In addition. SYRACUSE SCOOL NOTES Moving Picture A movie called “Personality. Charm and Career," was shown at the sth period, Feb. 13. It pointed out the right and wrong features of life. Table manners, dancing and acquaintances were illustrated. It emphasized that intelligence, character and posture were the three main things by which togain popularity. Although the pupils were amused at some of the wrong ways of etiquette, most of us realised some faults of our own. Sophomore News The sophomore literature class is studying Oeoge Eliot’s novel, “Silas Marner.” We are making plans for a class party to be held next month. The Home Ec class is making scrap books on how young children will spend their days. We are also learning how to care and feed them. Death of Mrs. Jesse Hughes Mrs. Jesse Hughes, aged 49, of Mishawaka, died Feb. 14th at St Joseph hospital, South Bend. She had been ill six weeks. She was born in Syracuse, July 5, 1896. As Madge Sloan she married Mr. Hughes Oct. 13, 1913. Surviving are her husband; one son, Walter, at home; two brothers, Walter and Albert; and two sisters, Mrs. Herman Huey and Blanche Sloan, of Syracuse. Funeral services were held Sunday in the South Side Church of the Nazarene at South Bend. Burial was made In Syracuse.

WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON CLUB “Notable Women** was the topic of response as IT members of the Wednesday Afternoon club met at the home of Ms. Olin Lougheed last week. Mrs. Georgia Miller, president, led the business session. Mrs. Ada Miller was elected chairman of programs. “Women and the Peace” was the topic of discussion ably handled by Mrs. Lougheed and Mis. Effie Emerson. * A social hour was enjoyed as Mis. Lougheed and Mrs. Emerson served tea. The next meeting will be at the home of Ms. Mary Hoy Feb. 27.
