From Lowell Sharp: I have been meaning to drop you a few lines for the past week, but I have been pretty busy. The j weather here is warm, but rainy, ilt can never beat Indiana. Had' a good trip back to the west coast ' —but a long one. It sure was good to get back to Syracuse to i see all your friends and walk up and down the streets. It sure is a grand old place—you dont know [ how good it and how much you ' appreciate it until you leave it. | I’ll try to, write more often. And thanks for (the many issues of the paper. ft if you would let me know. So far, over here I have not met any one I ever knew. We had very mild weather here up until the first of January. Then we had a few cool days, between 50 and 60 degrees. I guess it will warm up again soon. We had a good deal of rain in December, but the sun is out most of the time now. From Pvt. Millard Hentzell: 1 thought I would cfrop you & line as to the fact I have met one of your home town boys, Pfc. Robert Eppert here at Camp Shelby. I have been in service since October, 1942. Pfc. Eppert is the first boy I have met from Syracuse. My father, Arthur Hentzell. now living at Mongo, was born and raised around Syracuse. Pfc. Eppert and I had a swell talk about our home town. Let us all hope that we can talk to everyone soon. Pvt. Millard Hentzell, 129 Gen. Hospital, Camp Shelby, Miss. A new recruit at the U. S. naval training station, Great Lakes, 111., is Eugene A. Paulus, 18, Syracuse, Ind. Now undergoing boot training, he is being indoctrinated into navy life, and is being Instructed in Seamanship, military drill, and naval procedure. (Perhaps some of you Syracuse boys at Great Lakes may meet up with a new recruit there by name of Arlin W. Cox (brother of the editor.) He’s in Co. 264. They’re- really taking .married with children in some sections. He is 37 years old, has three children. Look him up if you get the chance. Harlingen Army Air Field, Tex —Another class of aerial triggermen to guard Army Air Forces’ bombers who graduated this week from the aerial gunnery school of the AAF training Command, and among the qualified “Sharpshooters of the Sky’’ was Cpl. Daniel C. Levernier, son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin W. Levernier, of Syracuse. Ind. Along with his diploma he received a pair of Aerial Gunner’s wings and a promotion in grade. After a delay in route to visit relatives, he will join an aerial combat team, unless retained at Haringen to serve as instructor. He was prepared for his place in America’s stepped-up air offensive by a comprehensive 6 weeks course in every phase of aerial gunnery warfare. Besides learning to fire every type weapon from camera guns to the deadly caliber .50 Brownings, he studied turret manipulation, aircraft identification and learned to tear down and assemble machine guns while blindfolded. He climaxed the course by firing on towed targets
