To the People of this Community THINK IT OVER How about doing a little cold turkey thinking after you lay aside this newspaper tonight? You’ve got a good job. The chances are there is someone WWffWBffIWTHW e lse in your IjjlWTljOidajgaß family, perBbf JQHG haps two or ■IF j *g three, work■Er * in g. Your HI — son or y° ur f brother — nilT.frnri may be away 11/*I ■■ u I at war. MAMiUJXAJ This war must end » sometime. Your whole family, your neighbors, are praying it ends soon and those fighting boys of yours will come home safely. But will you be ready for whatever happens when peace comes? Will you have something laid away? We’re all hoping there’ll be jobs aplenty, jobs which mean making something for somebody’s happiness and not for somebody’s sorrow. That’s where your War Bonds come into the picture. Sure, Americans own billions of dollars of War Bonds now; and before this 4th War Loan c*ds they will have put away billions more. But how about you? You’re the one that counts. The bigger the pile of War Bonds you have when peace comes, the bigger chance you’ll have to slip right into the post-war world you’re dreaming about tonight. So “Let’s All Back the Attack.” THE EDITOR. *. — Hospital Notes. Mrs. Alpha Bushong, Syracuse, was discharged Feb. 7th from the Goshen hospital. Mrs. Josie Snavely, Syracuse, was admitted to Goshen hospital Feb. 7 for medical treatment. FOR SALE Farms and City Property If interested in buying a Goshen home, see me. 25 Years Ago,., From the Files of The Journal FEB. 13, 1919. A few weeks ago we thought we had a supreme task on our hands—winning the war. Today we have a greater one. A just peace settlement will be harder to effect than a victorious ending of the war. Never was a peace conference held in which the rank and file had so vital an interest. Generally the over-lords of the nations have arranged the terms of treaties, while the ordinary citizen who has fought the battle and will pay the bills, has been ignored. That day has passed. The patient, everday citizen, the toiler on the farm, in mill and in factory and store, who, in person or through his sons, has paid the stupendous price of victory, has awakened to his right to say that in the interests of the great mass of men and not in the interests of the few shall peace terms be made. He has believed he was sacrificing and fighting in a war to end all war. He has made up his mind that this sort of thing shall not happen again. The town report for 1919 shows a balance on hand of $7,7456.47. Total receipts were $10,787.44. Total expenditures were $11,185.-) 50. J. U. Wingard was town clerk-treasurer. (r z The following composed the Syracuse H. S. five in a basketball game with Cromwell: Drukamiller, Lepper, Hibner, Rarig, a»(L Foster. ■ AROUND TOWN (With J. B. C.) • How to relieve the housing shortage here (overheard at a meeting of the Uplift Society): Somebody build a dozen or so to sell at $2,500 —like they do it in Chicago; more folks make some apartments' out of unused rooms in their homes; the sev-eraWburned-out dwellings here; and, (here’s the best) some of the 30 or 40 widows in town get married. • A representative of a chain store was in town this week. Says there will be a store in every town of any importance, as soon as rationing shows signs of letting up. • The weather is always a source of conversation. And we have certainly had "unusual” weather here this winter. Just one nice day after another. It did snow or sleet last Saturday night, but didn’t last over Sunday. Had a high wind Saturday afternoon late. Actually, the winter has been very, very nice, and except for the Lack of moisture, has been perfect. • Vital statistics: Arthur Thibodeaux used to be a wrestler—a good one, too. Matty Jones used to be a “bug” on airplane flying (still got the !“bug” but doesn’t fly any more.) Several from this commonunity attended the sale of Ellis Eby on Monday. The Eby family is planning a trip to Florida. FOR SALE A beautiful all-modern home, with lots of shrubbery, located on Lake street, (1 block from the lake) Syracuse, Ind. For quick sale, price $3200.00. LAMAR MARTIN REAL ESTATE Phone 439 102i/ 2 So. Main st. Goshen
