A letter was received here this week by Miss Eloise Richhart from Max Carlson, mailed from Alaska. .He left Fort Lawton, Wash., two weeks ago. Walter Rosenberry left Wednesday for Indianapolis. He will take a six-weeks course given State Conservation Officers, prior to his appointment as a game warden. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cline and Mr. and Mrs. L. Fadley, of Anderson, spent Sunday at the lake. Friends of Mrs. M. B. Hausman of Elkhart, will be glad to learn that she is recovering from injuries received in a fall at her home two months ago. Timothy H. Blosser, R. 2, Syracuse, is continuing his studies at the University of Wisconsin this year under a Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation Assistantship. The Missionary Society of the U. B. church will hold their Living Link service at the home of Mrs. Muriel Sharp Wednesday evening. Mrs. L. O. Oyler will be the leader. The lesson will be on the “Great Commission.” Noble Blocker returned to his home Wednesday afternoon from the Elkhart hospital, where he has been the past three weeks following an operation for appendicitis. Mrs. Anna Dukett, of Hammond, Mrs. Margaret Smith, of Jonesville, Mich., and Mrs. Anna Morrison, of Indianapolis, were here this week, called by the death of Louis Solt. Mr. and Mrs. James Connolly spent Wednesday in Chicago. Mrs. W. G. Connolly returned here with them. Mrs. Betty Clark, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Connolly and "Moon" Mullins, of Chicago, were here last week-end. Mrs. W. G. Connolly returned with Mr. and Mrs. Leon Connolly to Chicago, where she went to buy merchandise for the LaPetite Shoppe.
Mrs. Rose Eppert has been ill at her home here. Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Warbel returned home last . week after spending the winter months at Avilla, at the home of Mr. and Walter Rex. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Thornburg, Sr., returned last Saturday from a vacation trip, spent principally at Brownsville, Texas. Miss Irene Abts, employed in the personnel department at the Kingsbury Ordnance plant, spent last week-end here at Lake Wawasee, with her mother, Mrs. Matt Abts. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Judy and family, of Oscela, spent last weekend here with Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Judy, who have been ill. Mr. and Mrs. Ed Smith and family, of Auburn, Ind., spent last week-end here. Word has been received here from Clyde Drollinger, former Syracuse newspaper man, that he is now at the National Printers Home, at Colorado Springs, Colo. This is a hospital and home, supported by the printers union. Mrs. Drollinger is employed at Dayton, Ohio. Rev. and Mrs. Travis Purdy, of Ligonier, are building a home at Potowatomi Gardens, on Syracuse Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Blair Laughlin are building on the Grieger property, north side of the road, Syracuse lake. Mrs. H. A. Bowser and Mrs. Hoopingarner are expected home the middle of next week, from Florida, where they spent the winter. Mrs. J. B. Cox entertained her bridge club Monday night, with guests for an additional table. Mrs. Sam Ed Searfoss was presented with a gift from the club in honor of her birthday. High scorer was Mrs. Hallie Holloway, with consolation going to Mrs. Lloyd Disher. Guest prize was given to Mrs. M. W. Montgomery for high'score and to Mrs. Richard Shenberger for consolation. A salad course was served at the conclusion of the games. Mr. and Mrs. Knox H. Stetler accompanied the Lake City Four Quartet to Walkerton Sunday evening, where the quartet (the Ellis Eby family) conducted the service at the Brethren church. A splendid musical program was rendered. Mrs. Stetler accompanied the' quartet at the piano. H. A. Bowser, who has been in Florida and Texas working this winter, returned here Thursday. Warren Ruple has purchased a farm near ZiOn church and he and his family are moving there in the near future. They are former residents here, but have been operating a farm "near Plymouth during the past few years. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McMahon returned here Tuesday from St. Petersburg, Fla., where they spent the winter. » J. F. Stoelting, of Freelandville, Ind., and Dr. W. P. Stoelting, of Sandborn, Ind., spent Sunday and Monday here with Dr. and Mrs. O. C. Stoelting. Mr. and Mrs. William Bigler, of Goshen, have moved to Warsaw, wheife Mr. Bigler is connected with the Fitch jewelry store. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lewallan, of Warsaw, were callers here last Friday in the interest of the Americn Legion and Legion Auxiliary and the Bond Sunday drive. Mrs. Lulu Foster has returned to her home here, after spending the winter at LaPorte, Ind., with her sou, Ray Foster and family. Mrs. Lloyd Disher spent last week-end in Chicago with her brother, J. Thomas Hesser, Mr. and Mrs. John Shenberger, of North Judson, spent Monday here at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Shenberger. Mr. and Mrs. Dale Sprague had as their guests last week-end, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wibbel and daughter, Judy, of South Bend. Miss Irene Sprague and Mrs. Jesse Agnew returned this week from several months stay in Indianapolis.
