Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Bigler, of Lake Wawasee, had as guests last week-end, Robert Bigler, of Chicago; Gene Bigler, of Dunkirk, N. Y., and Miss Mildred McKarns, of Fort Wayne. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Schleeter and daughter, Sandra, spent Labor Day at Three Oaks, Mich., at the lake. Max Carlson and Miss Eloise Richhart spent last week-end in .Detroit, Mich., visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Carlson, who moved there from Syracuse several weeks ago. George .Xanders and son, Tommy, are fishing in Canada this week. Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Latighlin and family, and Gale Block! and son, of Chicago, were week-end guests of Dr. and Mrs. J. RLaughlin, at their home on Ogdon W. S. Ford, of Bristol, has rented the Crist Darr farm. Mr. and Mrs. Darr will move sOon to their home on Syracuse lake. A sale has been scheduled for Sept. 12th of the Darr live stock and other farm property. Mr. Ford is a retired army officer, and has been conducting a poultry farm, near Bristol. Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Miles and daughters spent .Sunday and Monday at Dunes State Park, and at Pokagon State Park near Angola. The W., S. C. S, of the Methodist church met at the home of Stella Swartz Thursday afternoon. Allan Ott received a broken arm last week when a tree he was felling struck him oh the arm as it came down.

Mrs. Nettleson Turner and daughter, Lou Ann, of Chicago, were week-end guests here of Mr. and Mrs. Blair Laughlin. George Butt is vacationing in Wisconsin this week. The South Shore Bridge Club held the final meeting of the season Wednesday with luncheon at Louie’s Grill. Bridge was enjoyed at the home of Mrs. Rbsh. Mr. and Mrs. George L. Xanders and Mrs. Matt Abts and their guest, R.»Laucks-Xanders, of Baltimore, spent last Friday at Lake Michigan, near South Haven. Mr. and Mrs. Lew Fabeley, of Anderson, who are spending a few weeks at the lake, had as weekend guests, Dr. anh Mrs. Earl Brock, Mr. and Mrs. Perce Doyle and Mr. and Mrs. Hoyt Wright, of Anderson. Mrs. Herb. McMahan, who spent the summer here at her cottage at the lake, has returned to her home at Anderson, Ind. Mr. and Mrs. Orval Taylor, of Chicago, who have a summer home on Lake Wawasee, entertained at dinner Saturday evening, Mrs. Donald Nixon and Mark Honeywell, of Wabash, R. Laucks Xanders, of Baltimore, and Mrs. Matt Abts of Lake Wawasee. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Teetor and Mrs. Chas. Teetor have returned to their home at Hagerstown, after spending the season at their homes at Lake Wawasee". Mrs. Orval Taylor, Mrs. Matt Abts and R. Laucks Xanders were guests Sunday at the home of Mrs. H. L Park, at Kendalville. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Cline entertained twenty guests for buffet dinner Labor day at their home on Lake Wawasee. Bishop and Mis. Campbell Gray, “of Mishawaka, are spending a few weeks in the Abts apartment on Lake Wawasee. Thomas Hapner, of R. R. Syracuse, underwent an operation for the amputation of the first finger on his right hand at the Goshen Hospital Tuesday night. The finger was taken off at the first joint. Roland Wogoman, employed at Wilt’s factory, caught his right hand in a saw Wednesday and cut off the middle finger, the end of his forefinger and end of the thumb. Dewey Laughlin spent last Saturday and Sunday in Chicago. Miss Bettye Harkless left Thursday for Indiana University, at Bloomington, Ind., to enter her sophomore year. Mrs. Walter Koher is in the MrDonald hospital, at Warsaw, for treatment. CHRISTIAN SCIENCE SERVICES “Man” is the subject of the Les-son-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, September 7. The Bible Citations include the following: “Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put.all things under his feet” (Psalms-8:6). The Lesson-Sermon also includes the following passage from the Christian Science textbook,“Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” by Mary Baker Eddy: “Man, made in His likeness, possesses ana reflects God’s dominion over all the earth” (p. 516).

YACHT CLUB ... Soundings ■MBmaHMOMnamani Wawasee Yachtsmen Sail in .Great Lakes Race Joe Flasket, Ed Dodez and June Merriman sailed as crevr in the annual Tri-State Triangular race from Chicago to St. Joseph, Mich., to Michigan City, Ind., and back to Chicago. Dodez and Miss Merriman sailed on the racing Q class sloop “Hope.” Flasket sailed one leg on the cruising boat, “Avalon” and changed ships at St.” Joe to finish on the “Wench.” Sixty-five yachts made the start but a few dropped out after the first leg. The first start was made at 7 p.m. from Columbia Yacht Club in Chicagb, and by 3:30 a.m. most of the boats were in at St. Joe. A fine moonlight night, a steady close reaching wind marked the first leg. The second start was made at 10:30 from St. Joe to Michigan City with a 30-mile an hour wind dead ahead. Waves were rolling from six to eight feet high. It was a drenched crew on the racing sloop Yankee, an R class boat, that boiled into MictiF' gan City at 4 p.m. Others follovj/ ed in close order until 8:30. The fleet left Michigan City at 10 a. m. Monday for the final race. A brisk wind was ready to carry them back to Chicdgo. Les Pearson, Bob Boettger and Commodore McCammon went to Michigan City to see the finish of the second days racing. Notes on Local Boats Frank Levinson is having his Snipe, “Hoosier Miss,” replanked. Howard Stults has left for college at Wichita, Kan., and has taken his Snipe, “Marion,” from the water. R. B. ...NEWS... of the lake SPINK WAWASEE HOTEL The Fort Wayne Transportation Club, consisting of executives from the central states, came in Wednesday for a two-day convention. There are 150 registered. A golf tournament, an annual affair, was held. Sunday, Sept. 7, the Equitable Life Ins. agency, of the Ryan division at Detroit, will come in for a 4-day convention. One hundred will be registered. Blumberg has purchased the National One-Design, “Gloria HI,” from Joe Flasket. Chris Mack, N. O. D. champion from Burnham Park, Chicago, stayed over a week after the regatta and took his boat, “Gypsey’ out last Monday. Mack not only won the N. O. D. crown but initiated a Waw’asee girl, Jean Emerson, into sailing. Incidently, in Sunday’s blow they capsized but without damage. Paul Hess and Mrs. Hess also took an enforced dip Sunday when the Hess Snipe laid down and died. Art Hime and Mrs. Hime are back in Indiana after a summer in the east. Annual Dinner The annual Wawasee Yacht Club business meeting will be held in the club lounge at 4 p.m. sharp Saturday, Sept. 6. Election of officers for 1942 will be on the agenda. Following the business meeting a dinner for Yacht Club 1. embers and friends will be held at Sargent’s hotel. Tickets will be available at the club and at Sargent’s.
