First Grade. We are enjoying our Christmas tree very much this week. The children made pretty colored chains and paper ornaments and sonde children brought small decorations from home. It looks very pretty. We will have our Christmas exchange on Friday afternoon, the children having drawn names, and the gifts will be put under our tree. We will begin having milk at school the first week after vacation. Orders and money must be in by Friday of each week. Mrs. James Byers invited us to see Santa Claus by the fireplace and their beautiful Christmas tree. Santa is taller than some of our children. Thank you, Mrs. Byers. We all £hjoyed it very much. Our first semester test will be given Thursday. We will have completed our pre-primers. primer, and two work books besides supplementary reading in other readers. “All of us wish all of you a merry, merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Mrs. Byers treated all the children with apples, after which we all went over to see Mrs. Blocker’s tree, and her Holy family and scenery. Then we went into the dining room where there was a whole Christmas village spread out on the table. Mrs. Blocker then let us play with the electric train. We certainly all had a grand time. Second Grade. We took a walk Tuesday afternoon at our recess time to look at the Christmas decorations. We liked Mrs. Byers’ Santa land porch so much and thank her for the treat she gave us. We have been quite busy making little gifts for our parents and reviewing for tests this week. Our Christmas tpee is very pretty. We decorated it Monday morning at openihg exercise time and shall have party and gift exchange Friday afternoon. Lowell Barnhart, Robert Dean, Kenneth Traylor, Doris Sawyer end Barbara Hendrix have been absent this week. ; We hope everyone has a merry Christmas. Third Grade. We have our Christmas tree up and decorated right beside our “MY SKIN WAS FLL OF PIMPLES AND BLEMISHES” Says Verna S.: “Since using Adlerika the pimples are gone. My skin is smooth and glows with health." Adlerika helps wash BOTH bowels, and relieves temporary constipation that ofteh aggravates bad complexion.

fireplace. It is strange how fast the presents have gathered around the tree, but there are plenty of them, all in the most interesting and exciting wrappers. We all just love to look at them, to see whl they are for and to guess what Is in them. Everyone in this room is glad that we are going to have milk after Christmas. We have several orders for it, already. No one., was absent yesterday. Geneva Lawson is absent today. Fourth Grade. Kathleen Campbell and Norman Searfoss were absent Monday. Norman Schmidt was absent Tuesday. We have our room decorated in keeping with the Christmas season. The children are quite happy with their Christmas tree and its decorations. The presents are comipg in fast and we can hardly keep from peeping. Only one more day until the mid-term examination. Most of us will be glad when the day comes. We want very much to make good grades. We, the pupils of grade four, and our teacher, are wishing everybody “a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year.” Fifth Grade. The fith grade wants to thank Santa Claus for our beautiful Christmas tree. Gifts are already piling up in the snow around the bottom of it. The boughs are laden with snow (paper, of course), bright balls, colored lights and gay, silver icicles. We wish to extend to you along with Tiny Tim, a very merry Christmas and “God bless us, every one.” Sixth Grade. We have discovered that the old saying, “No news is good news,” does not suit a newspaper reporter, so the sixth grade will report this week. We have completed all our work ior this semester and are very busy reviewing for examination. The Give and Take club held a meeting Tuesday at which time oral book reports were given. So far, the club has discussed the following subjects: Safety, Australia, and India. We have set up a Christmas tree and have decorated it. We will have our Christmas exchange next Friday afternoon. Mr. Pracht just called and left tickets to the theatre for next Sunday afternoon or evening. Thanks, Mr. Pracht. “Free •Wimpy’ at Dude.” Lois Davis

Seventh Grade. The girls in home economics class broiled pork chops in laboratory Wednesday. We voted on them and decided that June Hummel and Betty Siefert had the best ones. Kathleen Rarick’s were so tough that she broke a plate in trying to cut them. Margaret Miles didn’t like her’s very well,or even better, We might sty, they didn’t like her because later she complained of a very bad stomach ache. The absent members this week were Eleanor Method, .Lavon Searfoss, Junior Held and Laddie Laughlin. Opportunity Room. The boys and girls have had a very nice time getting ready for Christmas. Twenty-one toys are mended and in good condition, and they have also made fifteen pillow tops, six embroidered pieces to be used on chairs, or lounge, six center pieces for the table, three embroidered pictures, and two onestring violins. We are all looking forward to a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and trust our friends may enjoy the holiday season. Junior News. Elvera Rarick was born in Stanley, Wisconsin, on April 17, 1923. She came from Jefferson Township school in Mexico, Indiana, to join us in our freshman year. She is a brown eyed brunette, 5 ft. 4 inches tall and weighs 116 pounds. Music is her hobby. She hopes to become a great musician and a good cook. (Don’t tell anyone, but she wants to be a good cook so she can fatten up a certain person down at Wilt’s factory.) Her favorite color is blue and her favorite dishes are heavenly pineapple and fried chicken. SlTe. is a member of the girls’ chorus and the band. She introduced the marimba into the band. She amuses all of us with her pencil sketches. Vella Smith was born on March 20, 1922 in Fc t V ayne, Indiana. She is a blu .ed blonde, 5 ft. 1 inch tall, and weighs 128 pounds. She reads books as a pastime and hopes to become a secretary. Her favorite color is blue. She loves to eat butterscotch pie. (She ought to get together with Fidler, sometime.) She joined us from Central High School in Ft. Wayne last year. Merry Christmas! School Christmas Vacation. Christmas vacation will start Friday afternoon, December 22nd, and continue until Monday morning, January 1, 1940. Regular work will continue the second semester in all subjects for the first six grades. The seventh grade girls will take up sewing in place of foods and cooking. The eighth grade will take civics and safety instead of geography. There will be six new subjects in high school. The freshman girls will take sewing and clothing in place of foods. The freshman boys will take woodworking in place of mechanical drawing. There will be economics for the seniors and solid geometry and a Bible course for juniors and seniors. The high school English classes will study literature the second semester and there will be a class in safety for the juniors. Regular work in alt classes starts Monday morning, Jan Ist, so it will be necessary for pupils to have text books to enter a class.

Sportsmanship at the Syracuse Basketball Games. Last Friday night during the Webster games the Syracuse fans gave the best exhibition of sportssanship that we have had in the Syracuse gym this season. During a number of games this season, the fans set a very poor example to high school pupils with whom an effort is being made to teach sportsmanship. Inter-school basketball games are not played primarily for the entertainment of fans. They are played that people may be able to get better acquainted with their neighbors, to learn to give and take, to learn to respect the rights of others, and develop a friendly feeling towards their fellows. When fans incite unfriendliness and bitter feeling among players in a game by razzing particular players and officials, there is very little left to justify inter - school basketball games. Instead of continually locking for faults and mistakes of players and officials, if fans will just look for the good plays and the good displays of good judgement and quick thinking, there will be more to see and greater

enjoyment will be had in watching a game. At Syracuse, the best officials are employed that can be obtained in this part of the state. Officials are always employed with the consent of the visiting principal and coach; therefore there can be no just reason for the booing and criticizing that has been given most of the officials that have been at„ Syracuse this season. It is true that an official will make mistakes, and some are such that fans have a better view point and can see the play as it happened. There will probably be as many mistakes in favor of the team as against it; therefore at the end of the game, the team that played the best ball is usually the winner, and what more could we ask. Instead of using our energy to razz officials and opponents, let’s use it to encourage our own boys to play just a little better ball and all be happier after the game. — ■ ' ■ ■ i William Watt “Free ‘Wimpy’ at Dixie.”
