First Grade. Richard Hann and Margaret Kitson have had birthdays this past week, Sasha Ann Hire and Marcia Fobes have been absent on account of sickness. Many of the children enjoyed the picture show on Saturday morning and marched In the parade. We all thank Mt. Pracht for his kind invitation. It helped very much in impressing Armistice Day. We will have our Thanksgiving Vacation on Thursday, Nov. 23 and Friday, Nov. 24th. There will be no school. Second Grade. We are saving our pennies and nickels for the Red Cross membership for onr room. Barbara Lee Hendrix of Louisville, Kentucky and Betty Peterson of Cromwell entered our room this week. We are enjoying Indian stories and the handwork correlated with them. We have cut and sewn with raffia, wigwams, canoes, and papoose cradles. We have also learned a number of Indian songs. Our fireplace is the center of cur Pilgrim house, and we like to read by it. Good Book Week was observed by a trip to the library and the making of posters. Tihrd Grade. Last week the third grade made health posters. The best ones were chosen and hung in the back of the room. The children liked the show Saturday morning very much. Thank you, Mr. Tracht. Thursday we made a soldier mounted on a red, white and blue background. They were all done free hand. Some of them were “Free ‘Wlinpy’ at Dixie.” Christine Traster

very good. We are learning to subtract and add with two-figure numbers. « Fourth Grade. Norman Schmidt, Eleanor Bishop, Dean Ruple, Paul Spry and Maxine Spry were absent Friday because of illness. Carolyn Baugher was absent Friday. She and her mother, Mrs. Elmer Baugher went to Detroit to visit Wallace Baugher and family. In reading class, we have been studying about the early English colonies and the Pilgrims. Donna Darr was absent Tuesday. ’ Fifth Grade. The weather last Friday fitted perfectly into out program for health class. Each member of the class had been writing the story of his, or her, life as a raindrop. It is really surprising the adventures one little raindrop can possibly have. Most of them were helpful raindrops and went about shampooing heads, washing clothes, and quenching thirsts. Tuesday, after recess, Mrs. Bechtel of Goshen visited us. -She showed us the picture that she and her husband took on their trip to Florida last Christmas vacation. We enjoyed these pictures very much and understand better the unit we are now studying in geography of the Southern States. Sixth Grade. The sixth grade pupils wish to thank Mr. Pracht for the show Saturday morning. We appreciated it very much. Our attendance dropped a little last week. We had five and onehalf days absence. It is still above the average of the first two months. Jane Myers tells us that she will withdraw from our school, Novem-

ber 17. She is moving with her parents back to Ft. Wayne where she will attend the Harrison Hill grade school. Robert Peterson entered the sixth grade Tuesday morning, November 14. He had formerly attended school in Cromwell. Thanksgiving vacation will start Wednesday evening, November 22, and will end Monday morning, November 27. Seventh Grade. The girls of the seventh grade wish to thank Miss Harrington for letting us attend the cooking school. We all enjoyed it very much. We appologize to Laddie Laughlin for teasing him so much. We are sorry, Laddie. The bad boys in history class this week were Joe Rapp and Junior Wogoman. They did sit in the front of the room; now they sit in separate seats in the back of the room. We are sorry that Billie Applegate is confined to her home because of illness. Joe Bauer seemed to be suffering from a ‘‘morning after” the day after the senior play. (Was it that malted milk and hot fudge Sunday, Joe-) We wish to thank Mr. Pracht for letting us enjoy the free show on Armistice Day. Eighth Grade. The attendance in the eighth grade has been only fair. There were a few absent because of colds and toothache, and I think some boys went hunting. The actors in our Thanksgiving play are progressing rapidly. Joanne Xanders is head prompter, now. The play will be given for the seventh and eighth grades, the last period Wednesday. “Free ‘Wimpy* at Dixie.” Robert T. M r atts

Freshman Class. The freshmen boys got to play a little basketball in the two games we’ve played. They didn’t show what they’re worth, though. They were rather nervous, but I think its time they got over that. We had a mock court in English Tuesday (and was it mock). We had a swell time, though it seems some of the boys were’nt Interested. We hope it turns out better tomorrow and Robert won’t be told, not what to do. Senior News. The seniors cleared $63.65 on their class play which was given November Bth. This money will be used to provide for a speaker, music,, stage decorations and other commencement expenses. The class wishes to thank the Rohrer Furniture Co., and Mr. H. D. Harkless for the use of their furniture and stage property. One of the girls in the senior class should be complimented on the number of play tickets she sold. Miss Kathryn Yeager sold 37 adult and 12 student tickets. Junior News. Right now is the season when the main question is, “What about our class party?” Although no definite arrangements have been made, Dec. 2, seems to be, just now, the ideal date for us.
