Mr. and Mrs. James Burson and son, Elmer, of Muskegon, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Wantz and family of Goshen, Mrs. Robert Wiles and baby were Sunday callers on Miss Irene Ringler who has just returned from the McDonald hospital. Miss Ringler is improving nicely. MOTOR CLUB AIDS YOUNG DRIVERS In the years from 1922 thru 1937. the people who figured in the most traffic accidents, caused them and who were killed and injured in them, were young persons of high school and college age—between 15 and 24. ♦ But that was two years ago. Last year, this group of young people showed a 24 per cent improvement, a percentage of improvement greater than in any other age bracket. There is only one reason why: The High School Driver Training and Safety Education Plan. This program was first installed in high schools in Illinois and Indiana three years ago by the Chicago Motor club and similar systems are now in effect thruout the country as a result of the work of various agencies. The results of the plan in this short time are little short of miraculous, yet many high schools are slow to accept this 'system which is easily available. While a< course a defined by the tate legislature is compulsory in Indiaiia, only fifteen schools in the two states have the complete course and the driver training car; only four hundred carry out the plan Many high schools have not yet considered the course even when informed that complete ‘ext material and plans for the entire course will be supplied by the motor club. Yet these same schools are proud of their domestic science courses, their manual training classes, their physical training program, and their special activities such as nature study, dramatics, and civic movements. Is it young people be taught how to • walk through traffic nd not be not equally important that these killed, and how to drive a car so that they will prevent death and injury to themselves and others? I FREO W. MAUN 4 This is the time of the year when windshield equipment is necessary for proper vision. Late in the afternoon of one day a short time ago, while we were riding with a friend we ran into a considerable fog and rain. The windshield wipers were not in working order, and as a result, we had very poor vision. We shall soon have fall weather which brings fog and rain, and in some sections, sleet. Get your car tuned up for winter driving, and when you do so, do not fail to check your windshield equipment. It’s smart to drive carefully’! Everett Kettering, of the Kettering Home Store, left last Sunday for a three weeks’ trip thru California. While there, he will spend several days looking over the Golden Gate Exposition.
