• LOCALS • The United Brethren Ladies Aid met on Wednesday with Mrs. Charles Beck. Misses Jean and Joan Riddle arrived in Syracuse, 'Saturday, after visiting both the San Francisco and New York fairs. ■ - Mr. and Mrs. Paul Riddle visited the New York fair for a few days and returned to Syracuse on Saturday to visit his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Riddle. Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Foster spent Sunday with Mrs. Lula Foster. On their return, they took their daughter, June, with them after she had spent several weeks in Syracuse. i \ ' —— V j Mr. and Mrs. Joe Madera of Fort Wayne, spent Tuesday with Mr. Vernon Beckman and sister, Miss Olga Beckman. Miss Mayme Wogoman is able to be up and around after a few days illnesp. Dr. and Mrs. F. H. McNutt and children have left for Maine. They will bring -their son. Junior, back when they return to Lake Papa- * keechie. Miss Betty Holloway has returned to Syracuse, after spending a few days in Fort Wayne. Clare Barbier and Miss Dorothy Dien of Tippecanoe Lake spent Monday evening with Mrs. Chariot Holloway. Dr. Davison of Mentone, Indiana, visited with friends in Syracuse on Wednesday. The guests of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Miner this week-end were Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Combs and children, Mrs. Olive Goodson and Nona Dering, also Hallis Whorley. Doris Vorhees of Port Wayne and girl friend, Eleanor Hepler, of Goshen were the guests of Mrs. Clifford Stiver over the week-end. Mr. land Mrs. C. S. Voorhees of Goshen and Mrs. Murphy of Goshen are spending a few days at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Stiver. Dr. and Mrs. W. P. Dearing were the guests of Mr. and Mrs. Z. J. Beyers on Saturday evening. Dr. Dearing is president of Oakland City College. . Week, end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Milt Wysong were Mr. and Mrs. j. G. Wysong and daughter, Joan, of Kalamazoo, and Mr. and Mrs. R. D. HEART TROUBLE FATAL TO CLAIRE DAUSMAN, AGED 60 Mrs. Claire A. Dausman, aged 60 years, one month and nine days, succumbed Thursday morning at 4:45 o’clock at her home near the Tippecanoe Fish Hatchery, east of Leesburg. Death followed an illness of several years caused by heart ailments which had kept the aged woman in a poorly condition nearly all of the time. Mirs. Dausman was born near Granett, in Kosciusko county, on April 10, 1879, the daughter of James and Liddy Thaits. She had been a resident of this county all of her natural lifetime. On July 8, 1897, she became the bride of Samuel Dausman to which union three daughters and one son were born. Mrs. Dausman was a member of the Baptist church of Oswego, and was very active, when her health permitted, in religious work. (Survivors are the husband, Samuel Dausman, at home; three daughters, Mrs. Alfred Hammon, Oswego; Mrs. Della Popenfoose, Leesburg; .and Mrs. Donald Fox, Milford; 1 one son, Vern Daus-

Funeral services will be held at the Oswego Baptist hurch, Saturday, August 19, at 3:00 o’clock, (DST), with the Rev. B. H. Truman officiating. Interment will be made in the Ireland cemetery near Hastings, in this county. DATES ANNOUNCED FOR TAX SCHOOLS The first big gun in - the tax budget investigation will be fired on August '24, when the Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc., and the Indiana Taxpayers Association call in their field representatives for a day’s final schooling before going out to budget schools in almost every county, according ot Anson S. Thomas, director of the Tax and Legislative Department of the Indiana Farm Bureau, Inc. The schedule of meetings calls for a meeting in practically every county within a period of about

seven days preceding the date when budgets will be presented. Through the efforts of taxpayers’ organizations, 11 1-2 million dollars were taken from the budgets last year, and the belief is general that good government has not been crippled. The date for the Kosciusko County meeting is August 25 th. JBB CONTEST TO CLOSE SATURDAY, SEPT. 16 The Junior Business Builders’ contest that has been going on at the Thornburg Drug Store for the past several weeks will end on Saturday evening at 9:07, with the winners being announced as soon as possible, thereafter. The contest is one that aids the children to become better business people and it helps them to gain an early- knowledge of business transaction and haw to use their own individual initiative. At this time there are nearly forty children listed in the contest, with each and everyone of them striving to the best of their .ability to gain the head of the list so that they will be eligible yfbr the winning prizes. • 4-H NEWS • The boys 4-H Club met at the home of 'Sherman Deaton on Friday, August 11th. A recreational hour, conducted by Ralph Coy was enjoyed by all. There was then some judging of hogs carried on and also the preparing of swine to show. A brief business meeting was held, followed by ice cream and cake as refreshment. The club is going to visit the Brookfield Zoo at Chicago, Friday, August 18. Wayne Coy, Reporter.
