CAVE TRIPS POPULAR Boat trips into Donaldson and Twin caves at Spring Mill state park have taken on an added attraction for park visitors during the hot weather, Virgil M. Simmons, commissioner of the Depart of Conservation, said today. Temperatures inside the cuve rarely exceed 55 to 60 degrees while water in the streams which flow through the cave is several degrees cooler than in other parts of the park. Last week more than 20 per cent of the visitors at Spring Mill “cooled off” with a trip into one of the caves.

LIBRARY NOTES Non Fiction “The Lure of Alaska’’ by Harry A. Franck. The famous worldroamer and vagabond, who had covered literally every country on earth now writes of his most recent explorations in one of the most interesting of them all—• Alaska. In his usual spiritual style, he recounts his and varled experiences. He hobnobs with miners in the gold diggings, with fishermen making their salmon hauls for Alaska's immense canning factories. He hunts uP old “sour-doughs” to get their own tales of the exciting and feverish gold rush; and journeys down the Yukon over much of their trail—now so comfortable for tourists, but in ’96, so filled with hazards, with horror and tragedy. Youth adds a joyous note to the bonk, for Mr. Franck had with him his young son, who has traveled in many of the far places ot the world with his famous father. “Reaching for the Stars” by Nora Wain. In this new book, the author attempts to tell honestly of her four years in Germany, years in which she came to know and like many individual Germans, to detest the blind cruelty of the nationalistic pride. Fiction “Tryst” by ElsWyth Thane. 1 modern love story and ghost story. It centers on the closed room in the top of an old English country house, whose lock was picked by the seven teen-year-old Sabrina, and where she met Hilary Shenstone, late of the British secret police. “Harlequin House” by Margery • Sharp. Mainly about Lisbeth, who, with her brother, lived in a Bohemian apartment in an unconventional part of London. Ronny needed reforming, and Lisbeth was being helped in this mission by philosophical and slightly lawless, Mr. Partridge. How they manage to create a series of surprising situations, in trative young American plays his part, is the gist o f the tale. “Strawstack” by Dorothy Disney. A thrilling and different murder mystery laid in a fashionable Maryland town. “Take These Hands” by Ann Paterson. A long and satisfying story about the making of a young doctor. “The Middle Window” by Elizabeth Goudge. A modern story of the Scottish Highlands, telling of two young people, whose love and loyalty have their roots deep in the past. * “Black John of Halfaday Creek” by James B. Hendryx. In a new chronicle of Haladay Creek, Black John Smith, the lovable, canny, self-appointed czar of the outlaw colony of the Yukan, administers his informal justice in behalf of several strangers of criminal bent, who are given enough rope here to hang themselves. The lusty wit and homespun wisdom of the nemesis of Halfaday Creek will delight Black John’s circle of admirers. Many people have remarked about the attractive appearance of the library since it has been redecorated. The library board was glad for the opportunity to do the redecorating this year. Circulation hit a new high Saturday.
