The Friendship Class of the Church of the Brethren enjoyed a class party in »f Mr. and Mrs. Emory Guy Tuesday evening. There were twenty-two present. Mr. Paul Bushong, president of the class, attended to the business, after which many games and contests were enjoyed, with prizes going to Mr. Arnold LeCount, Mrs. Rarig and Mr. Nelson Ryman. A delightful lunch was served. Mr. and Mi's. Arthur 3mith were the Monday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Stiffer. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Nichols of Kendallville were the Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. Unrue Miss Gladys Bowser was the Sunday afternoon guest of Mrs. Fieldon Sharp. Mr. and Mrs. O. H. Schaffer of Chicago, and Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Grames and children were the Sunday guests of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Rex. Mr. and Mis. Wm. Gants were the Sunday dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Poyser. Mr. and Mrs. Clifford: Vorhees of Goshen and Mrs. Elizabeth Murphy and Mr. Harry Jones of Wisconsin were the Wednesday afternoon guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Stiver. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Frevert were in Goshen on business, Thursday Mr. and Mrs. Harold Basset and Dr. Latham called in the Clifford Stiver home Tuesday evening. Mr. arid Mrs. Ray McClintic and Mr. Robert Brown of Toledd, 0., were the guests of Mr. Ed McClintis from Monday to Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Hay and ■daughter, Happy, of Oshkosh, ’ Wisconsin, will spend this weekand with Mrs. Hay’s father, Harry Jennison. Mr. and Mrs. Hay will leave early in the week for Detroit and points in Canada, leaving their daughter hrire with her grandfather. She returned to her home Sunday evening with her brother, Frederick, who came for her. Austin Pellet, a student of Indiana Central College at Indianapolis, and president of the St. Joseph Conference Young Peoples Union of the United Brethren church called on Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Bailey Friday evening on his way home at Butler, Indiana. Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Bailey enjoyed themselves at a pick-nlc in the Bause Huckleberry marsh on Monday, with good results. Mr. G. C. Harwood and his two , daughters, May and Harriet Ann/ will leave Monday, July 17, for an extended trip through the western states. Besides taking In the fair and other points of interest, Mr. Haywood and his daughters will visit Mrs. Judge in San Francisco. Mrs. Judge is Mr. Haywood's sister. It is estimated that they will be gone about seven weeks ENTERTAINS MILFORD HOME ARTS CLUB Mrs. Charles Rock, Jr., entertained the Home Arts Club of Milford, Tuesday afternoon. Twelve members of the club were present with Mrs. Scenora Hoover as assistant hostess. After the business meeting, a contest was held, with Mrs. Mae Sparklin winning first prize and Mrs. Florence Myers, consolation. The leader for the meeting was Mrs. Florence Myers, who led the discussion on “The Kitchen Clinic.” MOTHER OF COUNTY CORONER DIES Mrs. N. C. Laird, 77, mother of County Coroner Dr. L. A. Laird, of North Webster, passed away at her home in Mentone, at 7 o’clock Thursday morning after an illness of three month duration. Surviving besides her son are six daughters and a brother. Her husband, Franklin W. Laird, preceded her in death some time ago. Funeral services will be held at the Laird residence in Mentone at 2 o’clock Saturday afternoon with burial in the Mentone cemetery. ,

GIRL SCOUTS MEET The Girl Scouts met at the M. E. church for their regular meeting last Monday afternoon at 2:30 at which time they studied their hand books of outdoor life. These books are very intellectual and interesting since they give a clear understanding of the plant and animal life along with the nature studyThe next meeting will be held two weeks from that date at the same time. The group will embark upon a hiking expedition during this meeting and every member is urged to be at the church on time. LEAVES FOR EASTERN POSITION Mr. Edward Smith, accompaniedby Mrs. Smith, left last Tuesday morning for a trip east. Ed, as he is known here, has been offered jobs with the newspapers at Deposit, New York, and at Plymouth, Ohio, and he will make the stop in the Ohio city on the way to Deposit, where he e>- , pects to locate permanently, although nothing definite has been decided. • Mr. and Mrs. Smith both have a host of friends in Syracuse and around the lake who will most certainly miss them, but have not failed to wish the couple well. Ed was formerly one of the owners of the Journal until it was sold in a recent deal. Mr. and' Mrs. Floyd Sehlabaugh of Elkhart were recent visitors at the United Brethren parsonage, the guests of Rev. and Mrs. J. C. Bailey. SINGERS AT WINONA The Coffing Sisters, internationally known marimba artists, will appear in artist recital at Winona Lake on Thursday evening, July 20. Their repertoire is not limited because of the nature of the music desired, or the time to be devoted to mtertainment. Their music consists of light classics, popular and semi-popular numbers.
