"How is your marm?" says Sally. "Well, she's complainin' a leetle," says Jonathan. Herf a pause of .ten -minutes ensued, during which Jonathan amused himself by whittling a stick. "There's nothin' new up your way, is there? said Sally, which Jonathan might understand as applying to his present situation, or his domioil. "ere? oh yis, you mean to hum; well no that is yis bur spotted kou's got a calf!" said Jonathan..-' ' : ' ' ' .

Sally would undoubtedly have laughed at this queer piece of information, only that she was too much vexed at the bashfulness of the speaker. At length, after another protracted silence, Sally got up a very small edition of a scream, and in a loud voice exclaimed, "Let me alone!" , "Why," says Jonathan, dropping his knife and stick in astonishment, "why, I aint a touchin' on ye." - "Well," said Sally, in a voice that might be indicative of fear, but sounded very much like a request. "Well, aint you gain' tut". Jonathan thought a -moment of this equivocal reply, and then after placing his knife in his pocket and blowing his'nrisej he drew his chair by the side of the pretty Sally, gently encircled her waist, and the next week they were .married.

HEPATITIS OK LIVER COMPLAINT. Liver complaint is described to be of two forms, viz: Acute and Chrome, which are different in taeir seat and character, and are produced from ulcers on the liver, which is diseased on the surface or in the centre. In the former, tbe patient is attacked

with sudden pain, in the region of the liver, and so severe that

even the bed clothes are insupportable; the patient cannot hear to lurn or lay on his left side from tbe pressure exerted in that

position of tbe inflamed organs. The latier may go on in such a manner that the first symptoms of liver complaint are those which mark the occurrence of suppuration. The acute and subacute varieties, almost always commence with some chilly feelings succeeded by heat of tbe skin, fevered tongue, having a yellowish appearance. Irregular state of the bowels, costiveness, countenance changes to a pa e or citron color, or yellow like those attlirteii with jaundice, difficulty of breathing, disturbed rest, attended with rouith. feverish symptoms, a dry and parched skin, difficulty of lying on the right side, urine Beauty and high colored, the patient passes many had nights and is frequently troubled w ith Diarrhrra. Tennsmiis and Files, nausea and vomiting, and has a considerable thirst. When the inflammation affc is the peritonpal coat of the liver the pain is much more intense and tbe fever higher than when confined to the liver. In cronic affections it is uncertain in its termination; the pain is

intense, attended occasionally with feverish symptoms, a dry and parched skin, irregular bowels, sallow countenance, and frequent attacks of Jaundice, the tongue is scarcely ever free from yellow fur, the appetite had, and corruption generally attacks the face

and bark, and behind the shoulders, sic.

YANKEE CLOCKS. It happens very seldom that a full blooded Yankee a lineal descendant of the pilgrim fathers, is found

breaking the laws of his country. But then they do

have such queer ways of getting around them, 'iho sapient lawyers of Missouri have placed severe rcstriciions on the selling - of Yankee clocks, so severe

indeed, as to almost amount to a prohibition. The Yankees, of course, ceased to sell them when the trade became unprofitable, and they were too conscientious to break the laws. But they have found out a new mode of getting rid of the surplus products of their industry. We have among us two admirable specimens, of the Yankee nation who are leasing clocks for ninety-nine' years. They say that their clocks "are going off like hot cakes." Hannibal Journal. -
