All the said Beef nnd Pork' to bo delivered between the 5th day of April and the 15th day of June, 1842; unless earlier deliverises should be authorized by ft he Navy Commissioners. The Beof must be packed from well fattened cattle, weighing not les than five hundred pounds nctt weight each. The legs and leg rands of the hind quarters, and the shins and shoulder clods, and at least eight pounds from tho neck end of each fore-quarter, or the parts marked Nos. 1, 2, and 3 on the drawing or delineation of the foro and hind quarters of an Ox, which will be attached to and form a part of the contract, must be wholly excluded from each barrel, and the remainder of the carcass must be cut in pieces of not less than eight pounds each. The pork must be packed from corn-fed, well-fattened hogs, weighing not less than two hundred pounds eachi ' excluding the heads, joles, necks, shoulders, hams, legs, feet and lard, and all refuso pieces; and must be cut in pieces weighing notless than six pounds each. .... Both the Beef and Pork rr.ust be slaughtered between the first of November next and the periods of delivery, and must be salted with at least one bushel of coarso Turk's Island, Isle of May, or St. Ubes salt, and with five ounces of pure pulverized sulmetre, to each barrel, exclusive ot a pickle to be made from fresh water, as strong as salt can make it. The barrels to be made of the best seasoned white oak or white ash staves and heading. If of the former, to be not less than three fourths of an inch thick; if of the latter, to be not less than one inch thick, and to be hooped at least three fourths over with the best while oak or hickory hoops, except the crose hoop, which must be of iron, at least one inch wide, and not less than the denomination No . 17. All at the expense

Each barrel must be branded on its head, "Navy

Beef," or Navy Pork, as the case may be, with the contractors name, and the year when packed.

expense.

Bidders must specify their prices separately and dis

tinctly, in separate oilers for the Beef and for the Pork, and lor each of the places of delivery, covering all expenses and all charges.

The Board of Navy Commissioners reserve to them

selves the right to reject all ofTers from persons who have heretofore failed to fulfil their contracts, or who do not forward satisfactory letters, showing their abil-

ty, and the ability of their securities, to complete tho

contracts.

Bonds in one-third the amount of the respective con-

racts will be required; and ten per centum, in addi-

lon, will be withheld from the amount ot each pay

ment to be made, as collateral security for the due and faithful performance of their respective contracts; which will, on no account, bo paid until the

contracts arc complied with in oil respects, and is to be forfeited to the use and benefit of tho United States, in ihe event of failures to complete the deliveries within the prescribed periods. And in case of
