linnd Roail in ('omikm IIciiI. The good-roads movement in Con
necticut, which was started by the last session of the legislature, has proved to be a popular one, eighty of the town3 having applied to the highway commission for the state aid provided by the statute. This means a good many miles of roads built according to the epeci float ions of the state commission and under its practical supervision. Each section of road ordered has to be visited by one or more members of the commission, who are all practical men and one of them an engineer, before the state money can be given. The popularity of the movement had not been anticipated, the legislators apparently not realizing the desire of the people of the state, especially of the farming sections, to establish better transportation for their products. Owing to the great success of our present stock shippers, there is one more : who is thinking seriously of launching . into that business. Our shippers are at ; present shipping lrom sö?om to sio,0ut i worth of stock per week.
