Several gentlemen were standing on the platform t)f one of the car, all of whom were more br less injured. Among them was Captain UltACtEX, of Indianapolis, who has since died of his injuries, lie was the Democrat-1 ic nominee for Senator in Marion countjparticipated in the Mexican war and raised the first Company of Cavalry in this State for service in this war. He was a gentleman of superior literary abilities, and possessed fine social qualities, and leaves a hirge circle of sincere friends to mourn his loss. Ri:s .iixg the Draft. A week or so ao Mr. Mallaly, editor of the Metropolitan. Record, New York city, was ancsitcd for an article in liis paper counselling TChistanco to the draft. His case was heard before Commissioner Osboin on Friday last, who discharged the prisoner, holding that a draft cannot be resisted until it is actually iu operation, and that any expression of opinion in opposition thereto, written or uttered, are not a violation of law. I'eusoxai.. Capt. Jack i'linn arrived in town on Saturday last, looking quite rugged and hearty. We presume the o.-tensiblc object of his visit at this lime is to r look after his political prospects, which we can inform him are far from promising. H id the linnMr stopped before the holding of tne Contention that put him in nomination he might have run quite a respectable poll but that dieet lived jutt long enough to prejudice evrry Democrat agaimt Jack, for which we sire of course duly thankful, in a political point of view. Whether he ever made the expressions that sheet attributed to him or j pot in immaterial it asserted he did, and j Ibeiug, as l'Dg as it lived, the accredited orcan of the luiscegens w were bound to be. Sieve it. Jf lie had any hopes ol being elected, he of course expected Democratic votes but. the Banner, with its usual senseless indiscretion, fixed that matter all right, and ensured his overwhelming defeat. ... The Lkac.ve. 1 here are manv who insist , ,. . , that the League is merely a close political orcaoization. without bindino- oaths or other ibligation than to be intensely ' loyal." This is false, it is a secret oath bound conclave f political conspirators, more treasonable nnd dangerous than was the Know Nothing org anization, because organized for more sinister purpose and controlled by men of less character an.l love of Ireedom. 'I hat the community may have an inkling idea of the obligations of the order, we copy the 'ollow ing from the "pledge of honor." to which each member subscribes on initiation : "And we do further pledge ourselves that wo will defend the State from any invasion, insurrection or rebellion, and all loyal citiicns of the country in the lawful protection ol their persons, property and families, and ,. that we will A7 secret the proceedings of t '''. Lco jtic, except when permitted to disclose them, and that in the furtherance of th 'seoltligations we pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor." How efficient service the would render in defending the State from invasion we ar not prepared to say. but judging from pastevents are of opinion thev would all lead the van vn a retreat, and doubtless would do better nervier in keeping a few unarmed men from the ballot box than in putting down any lorm-

O. P. Morton has published the following card explanatory : To the Indiana Hundred Days Men. The regiments organized under the special authority of the President to serve for the term of one hundred days, will be mustered out so soon ns the muster out rolls can be prepared by the company officers. The men will be paid immediately after muster-out, the money being already provided. I am assured that the mustering and l'ay Departments will do all within tiieir power to facilitate the early discharge and payment of the men. (). I. MoKTox, Governor of Indiana. Indianapolis, August ,'51, 1 S i. Jtir An effort is being- ma le to close up the breach in the aholilion-tnisccgenc-conscript ion-vigorous-prosecution of the war-negro equality-Slio ly organization by inducing Lincoln t Fremont to resign, 'hat a compromise candidate may be put on the track. The Committee have addressed a letter to Fremont to this effect, who replies that he will resign in case Lincoln will do the tame. No reply has been received from Lincoln, and probably none will he, as he has expressed himself adverse to swapping horses while crossing a stream. It is proposed to put on Grant, Tiutler, Hancock, Sherman or Pmrnside, incase Lincoln and Fremont should be got out of the way. We would suggest that Puttier would be the most appropriate man for the position. He comes fully up to the standard of moral honesty enter. taiued by the leaders of the party, and would secure the enthusiastic support of every Shody contractor and thief in the co nit rv Skizvke of Powuku. We understand fifty kegs of powder were seized at the Depot last evening by the Provost Marshal and his depulie. The kegs were marked to a Mr. J. V. When the freight receipt was presented to Mr. Dickey, who is a prominent Democrat, he 'nformed the Agent he was not in the powder business, and at once ''smelling a mice,' added that it llad better be sent back to Morton. Wherever it has been brought in competition with the simple Cider Mill, it has been awarded a iirst premium. The ad vantages of this machine arc, that on purchasing it, the farmer has at the cost of an ordinary cider mill, a substantial machine, simple in its construction, that answers for four or more purposes. With this machine two men can make from six to eight barrels of cider per cay, or, it will shell one bushel of corn per minute. It is decidedly one of the greatest labor-sating machines ever invented, and we would advise our readers to call and examine it SuT" A sort of Lottery scheme to buy out of the impending conscription has been got up in this city the company consists oftu-entv, who pay into the fund or.e hundred dollars each.
