SAMUEL S. nARRELL. LOOK HERE ! SEASON ARilAXGEMNT ! 1000 Subscribers Wanted ! We have made permanent arrangements j for tho enlargement of the SnELBv VolcxTKER to 23 column paper, commencing with the next issue. For this purpose we have contracted for r new press, and shall make ach other improvements as may te necessary to enable us, as in prior yertr9, to put out one of the best looking weeklies in the State, nd no effort shall be spared on our part to make it one of the best and most thoroughly Democratic. We now ask our friends throughout the county te exert themselves and give us a large circulation, that sound Democratic principles may be thoroughly disseminated among the people of old Shelby. In order to perfect these improvements we hall be compelled to suspend publication for one and probably two weeks, but after that shall maka our appearance each and e?ery Thursday morning. We shall be compelled to raise the price for yearly subscription to tho Volunteer hereafter to $2,00 per year, being hardly equivalent to 51,00 three years ago. The abolition press is canvassing the propriety of the ''Government" cstimatins the number of men it will require to.be sacrificed the same as it estimates it expenses aud then give notice that so many, say fifty thousand, will be required monthly either as Volunteers or conscripts. It is contended that this plan would bo much better than the levy of large masses" of men at a time, to be rushed into the field without discipline. The plan is certainly feasable, but tfie people premeditate a draft this Fall that will Rend the present infamous administration, niggers and all where they belong. Real Estate and Loan Agency. By card in another column it will be observed that the parties there named have opened an office in this city for the purpose of doir.ga eeneral Agency business in the purchase and sale of Real Estate, effecting loans, renting property, collecting rents, itc. Those having business of this description will find it a saving of time and labor to entrust it to them. Thev are competent business men, and will devote their time and attention exclusively to the lueiness. Go and See ! See What? The large stock of willow market baskets, ladies work and traveling baskets. Notions, Candies, Nuts, canned Fruits, Cove Oysters, v.c. tc, just received at Thachers, No. 1 Ray House. He also has largely replenished his btock of Groceries, Wooden and Stone Ware, and has a superior article of pure Rio Coffee, scorched and ground ready for use, which those who hae tried it pronounce A. No. 1. All these and a thousand others, are sold at the lowest possible figures, and are warranted to be ns good as the best. Remember the place, No. 1, West end Ray House. 2t Rain. We had a fine shower of rain on Sunday afternoon, thefirst for several weeks. It done but little in the way of cooling the oppressive atmosphere, but the growing crops and especially garden truck, which was nearly burned out, was incalculably benefited. There was another light shower on Wednesday morning, which was thankfully received, and its repetition now and then would not be amiss. John P. ITaloJohn P. Hale has been slaughtered by the Abolition members of the New Hampfchire Legislature, who have just refused to Te-elect him to the United States Senate. Ho has had too much to pay against the thieves in office to retain his standing in the dominant party. While he has been willing to make "a good thing" himself ont of the miseries entailed upon the country by the war, he has yet insisted upon lhe right to speak out against official robberies in the Government service. This cost him his re-election, and he has been defeated by Aaron II. Cragin, who is to succeed him. XT An PTohnnrrn .naol-mn. f . , , 7. ' -t0 uauimore nominations, truly exclaims t,, . ., inuy eitiaiius . Lho ago of rail-splitters and tailors, of buffoons, boors, and fanatics, has succeeded. In a crisis of the most appalling magnitude, requiring statesmanship of the highest order, the country U asked to consider the claims of two ignorant, boorish, third-rato back woods lawyers, for the highest fetation ia the Government. Such nominations ia such a conjuncture araea nsuk to the common pense of the people. God ears tbo Republic."

It opens with a beautilul and piquant steel engraving, called ''How thev Caught Fish," which represents a couple of young lovers earnestly engaged in C'jnvefsatin, apparently much to the astonishment of n party of ladies, who have just come to the edge of the woods. Then follows a very handsome fashion plate, such as this magazine is becoming noted for. Then an engraving of the Empress Eugenie, and a large number of others, devoted to the illustration of the latest styles of dress, &c. The music of this number is aGrand March from the opera of Faust. The literary matter includes "A Story for Sisters-in Law," "Mistress and Maid," (with an illustration.) ''Edna's Faith," "Richard Graham's Love," "Tho Maiden's Answer," "First and Last," "The Transformed Vil lage," (illustrated.) "A Woman's Pride," Editor's Department, &c Arc. Manny Reaper & Mower, Sheibyvilie, Ind. I am informed from what I 3aid when at your City lhe oiher a.y in reference to John II. Manny Reaper and Mower, that certain njonts for other Machines are putting their ows construction on it, and using it against the sale ofaid M.ichine. I here state for the purpose of correcting any rocg impressions, that agents aud those interested in the sale of other machines any be trying to make. I have dealt more or Kss with the abore Firm and their representatives for the last three years and have alw.iy' found them strictly honorable and willing t do what thry had agreed to in every particular. Further, tha t thdr Machines sold in this Cour.ty have giT.n as good satisfaction as any others as far as I have 1 eed a'.le to learn. The sales made by their aent here this year amount tip to this time to at least 35 or 40 Machines, being more than that sold of any other kind, which goes to show hat the farmers think of it, and I further believe that farmers btiyiii it, will not be disappointed in getting a good reliable Machine, and one that n ill give satisfaction. I am not a-ent fir any Machine and bare no more interest in the sale of one machine than anojher but do cl-kim to have and interest with the farmers.
