Ici Cbkam. The warm ereninswe have lately been enjoying naturally creates an appetite for aomethinj at ouce cooling and refreshing, and nothing comes nearer filling the bill than a dish of Ice Cream, which can be obtained at Ileisa' Saloon, which has opened for the season. t" We had a heavy fall of rain on Monday, accompanied by a smart sprinkling of bail, tome of the stones of rather extraordinary aixe. It had a tendency to cool the atmosphere, but unless it should clear offwarm bt Utile benefit will accrue to the growing erope. .
Washington Tp. Convention. fO" We hear considerable complaint (of - ourse from "loyal" sources, as Democrats are "out in the cold" and neither expect nor desire any position) about the officering &c. the one hundred days regiments. For instance the regiment from this District, in which is incorporated the company from this county, is modestly styled the Indianapolis city Regiment, notwithstanding less than one half of the men .composing it are from that city, hut no serious complaint is made of this, but that Governor Morton should select his pets and pimps from that city for all the positions in the regiment is deemed not only unfair but decidedly ungenerous. The Companies outside of the city thought as the Governor bad furnished all the held officers for the regiment from among his pets and underlings, he would permit them to suggest a competent Quartermaster, and presented the name of Jesse W Elliott of this ciy but it Was no go, his gigantieship had a man for the "posish" in the person of Mr. Connor, the Post Master of that city, a berth worth several thousand a year, but it is presumed
he had done some of Morton's dirty work and claimed this extra office as a reward the alary and pickings will no doubt be hand some. . Mr. Connor ia "truly loyal" and em phatically patriotic, so overcome was he by his patriotism, as we are informed, that the was unable to make the proper requisition for
cunning lor tne uoys, ana tney came near i being sent away un uniformed. We have no political sympathy with Mr. Ellintt, but are constrained to say he would have made an excellent Quartermaster, as, aside from his well known business qualifications, he has had quite two years experience in the Quar termasters department but competency count nothing under this administration, the greater the dunce and imbecile, the more certain his chances of a responsible and lucrative position, as evinced in the case ol Connor, who probably will not see a sober moment during the hundred days, but then, he is Morton's style of man: WotKDEB. We regret to notice that Alva C Lact, of this city, a member of the 63d
Indiana Regiment, and also a printer by profession, was wounded in the recent battles
between Sherman and Johnson in Georgia
How bad we are not informed, but we hope
not eo seriously as to endanger his life, nor
to prerent him plying his vocation "when this
cruel war is over."
Moral Township Convention. The Democracy of Moral Township met in Convention on Saturday, the 21st inst, John II. Jkffreys, Esq., was appointed Chairman and Stephen V. Gould, Secretary. The following gentlemen were appointed Delegates to represent said Township in the County Convention to be holden on the 4th of June next Francis Amos, Ja's O. Parrish, John II. Jeffreys, S. V. Gouid, Cyrenus Bishop. The following gentlemen rere appointed
J. W. Ash worth, II. D. Andrews,
contingents : . Geo. W. Wood, John Drake, Marquis Case.
On motion the proceedings were ordered to be published in the Shelby Volunteer. After some spirited remarks by the Chairman the meeting adjourned. S. V. GOULD, Secy. 'I he editor of the Banner is much exercised about the prevalence of the K. G. C's. We have no doubt of the existence of such a mysterious order of secret oath-bound traitors, and .would suggest to him the propriety of being very careful in his nocturnal perambulations lest he might come in contact with some of the dreaded "Knights," and woe be to the unfortunate individual who falls in their vindictive clutches. The Banner man says the order is increasing, he has evidently seen some of the "Knisrhts" and we
should not wonder if he saw more before the ides of November nest.

Chaplain Lozier an Imposter. We last week briefly refered to the begging tour of one Chaplain Lozier through this county, a reputed agent of the Sanitary Commission, and warned honest people to give him a wide berth, ar rather give him nothing at all. It was a remarkable fact that none but abolitionists of the blackest dye
were appointed to solicit contributions they were instructed to take down the names of every male resident of the district, place the amount given opposite their names, or in case they gave nothing the reply made to the solicitor. The community will be sumrised
at least that portion not fully posted as to
the consumate rascality of the abolition par ty in general and this Lozier in particular) to learn that this canvass had a double object
one to solicit funds to run the treasonable
oath-bound Loyal League and the other to
make a political classification or sanvass ol the locality, the solicitor marking each name C. (for Copperhead,) U. (for Union,) and so on. Those who cave in the belief that thev
were contributing to aleviate the sufferings ol the sick or wounded soldier were "taken in
and done for" the money will never be ap
propriated to any such purpose.
This Lozier approached a gentleman, sup
posing him to be sound, and remarked that
they were making a thorough re-organization of the League, and purposed ascertaining,
by a careful canvass, the exact strength of
each party in every Township and county.
and that Govr rner Morton had pledged his
word to procure furloujrhs for a sufficient

number of soldiers to carry every doubtful county for the League (Union as he termed
it) ticket. He also as much as intimated
that the money he was raising was not for
the purpose of aleviating the sufferings of the
soldier but for political purposes for the
benefit of Got. Morton's "Bureau of Finanoe"
and the League generally.
Was a more execrable system of fraud,
deception, hypocracy and villiany than this
