W have in up office one of the famous (famous with infamy) "Coffin hand hills," iued hy the opponents of the Democratic party and(ien. Jackson in 1S-S. It i some what the worse Cur act and frequent handling, but in a sufficient state of preservation to show the in famous measures resorted to hy the then as now enemies of the Constitution and the Union, to crush out the Democratic party. There are men to-day in helhycounty who no doubt circulated or at least approved this infamous libel upon a true patriot and statesman who hypocritically pretend to reverence the name and memory of (Jen. Jackson, and even jro so far as to assert that if he were litin wonld think as they do would be an abolitionist Convalescknt. Our young friend Geo. C. Thachkr has beon prostrated for several weeks part by a severe attack of Typhoid Faver. We are pleased to announce that he ia rapidly recovering and expects to be "all right" in the course of a week or so. A Affray. We learn there was quite serious affray anion? the soldiers at the Depot on Monday morning members of the 52d and 33d Keiiments. We have not been able tO definitely ascertain the caUSOofdif! , "i cuny, our, suppose it was engendered ry rivalry each claiming that theirs was the best regiment, had seen the hardest and most service, Ac, and not unfreqiiently making disparnsin; remarks, one of the other. S?veral of the boys, as we learn, were badly bruis4 up. Howie knives and revohers were freely shown but none of them we believe were used with fatal effect. Several civilians jnixed in and p-ot mora knocks than thanks for their trouble. Spring Styles. Those of our readers visiting Indianapolis in quest of Hats or Capi of the latest and most elegant patterns should not forget that Damberokr's, East Washington, street, ia the place where they will lc most likely to find the object's desired. Preamble and Resolutions of theJeffersonian Literary Society on the Death of S- B. Clayton. Pellow Jeffersomans : A solemn annrtinccment falls on our cars causing us once more to reflect that "in the midst of life we are in death." Clayton has fallen ! One of Jeffcrsoninan'a truest sons, r alien juttns he had assumed the statue of manhood! fallen when the heart had just offered those affections which are the only redeeming trait of depraved humanity ! fallen just when he had gathered around him a circle of kindred spirits who deeply sympathized in his every exertion, ani fondly but vainly hoped ere lng to have seen him occupy a position worthy his exalted nature. In the decease of our beloved brother we have sustained a los which you that know him" best can alone appreciate. We have lost him in every relation where a sense of justice would have led him to act Therefore: FesohfJ, That in the death of brother Clayton we recognize at the hand of Providence a deep affliction, and one which should draw us closer, and still closer as a Society in the bonds of brotherly love. Jietohed, That in his" death wo have lost on whose upright life,"c mUtent character in all his relations is worthy of our imitation. 7i&jourdThs.t we will wear the usual badge of mourninr for the period of rilteendays. Resotrtd, That we sincerely sympathize with the bereaved parents and friends of our dspnrte l brother in their afilietion, an I would render any aid in OUr power tj alleviate their ditrS'. It is being generally 8 u chested that the Farmers this season should turn their attention more extensively than heretoforejto the cultivation of potatoes, benns and onions, three commodities in great demand both for use at home and in the army. (There in haidly a possibility of the markets I ecominp glutted with these staples, and they ft-e quite sure to command a good price, and w hen the yield is anything like a success there is no more profitable crop. As there will be no peaches and probably a light yield of other fruits it may be advisable that an extra quantity of peas and beans should be cultivated by each family having the ground to spare, w hich can be canned groi n and kept for use in winter, and to some extent will compensate for the loss of the usual varieties of fruit.
