AVe cthnorfini'a Letter illustration of iw recklessness of radicalism, and itsi disregard of truth and reason, than is fur--nUhe'i'in the attempt to deitroy the State of Loniiitnaand bring her into the Union i Territory, nr a new State with a new 'edpitilutioB. There is a loud ontcry of Jfolitionista fijraih-t anv attempt to re-
Viha-t they call "the old pro-slavery constitution of Louisiana.' The attempt is made to convey to the public mind the idea that men who desire to have Louisiana resume her status in the Union as the old State of L ousiana, desie it becanso the constitution is pro slavery, and Miat hy retaining the old constitution u . 1 l . I -v- i . . , f inej win rciam slavery. .Nothme ronld be more untrua. T : tiona f Louisiana never contained one word on the subject of slavery, recognising, establishing or controlling it. The constitution of the Stato of Louisiana, adopted in lSo'2. which is to-dav the law of that State, above all other law, except I liiptui aueiniiea stales, aocs not mention slavery, and is in no possible sense ot the word "pro-slavery." The svstem of slavery in Louisiana is not dependent on the constitution at all. The subject i under the control of the people of the State, who, by their ordinary channels of, legislative action, may, if they choose, previde for its removal or modification. It is in the same condition ns any other Kystem of propertv-hol ling, and the laws which regulate it are subject to legislative revision or repeal at th will of the neode. Why, then, do the radicals want to overthrow that constitution ? For what reason do they desire to have a new convention to adopt a new constitution and make a new State of Louisiana? It is not impossible that an answer to this . r i l UcMIOil tllJlv HOI DC lOUna 111 l it 1 0 Ji, I Article 12 of the Constitution, which puts a large Stumbling-block ill the Wavofl .1 . . r ertam radical juana for managing elections. 1 lie aitldo lliovides thnt "nn soldier, seaman or marine in thearmv or I naVy of the Unitetl States, ;halt be entitled to vote at any election in this 'rotate." This may be a difiicnlty in tlm :way of plans for controlling elections in . - 1 - - - - . . V ' v. im iii 1 , of radicals down there against the "profilavcry constitution," as they call it, and they probably desire to force an abolition constitution on the people. At tho present time the city of Xew Orleans is governed with a full recognition of the constitution of 1852 as nn existing instrument. All the courts of civil and criminal jurisdiction in the city are dependent on that constitution for , their power. If there is ? uch a crime as tmuder, such a process as the foreclosure of a mortgage, or an action for the collection of debt, if there aro any remedies or aafesnards for propcrtr ui iicmon It Uu interposition of the courts of law, these aro wholly due to the present existing valiUity ot the constitution ot IN).: ami the fact that Louisiana is to-day a State in the United States by that constitution. We are well aware that tho legal arguments is of no importance to the radicals. Ther trample on law and constitution a with heedless feet. To attain plunder and spoils of oflice, to destroy the Southern States and keep them from ever becoming voting members f the Union, the abolition party will do anvthing a'gaintt law. LUit our readers should know the fact in cases like this, and therefore we assure them, that notwithstanding tne loua outcry 01 nuoiuionisis against the obi "pro-slavery" Constitu tion of Louisiana, and against those who wish to bring the State into the Union under it, there is not one word about 'avery in it, nor one provision from bes 1 t . irinnincr to end wiiica can prevent tne .people of Louisiana from abolishing slavery whenever they choose. The out cry of the abolitionists is therefore in tended to deceive, and like a great ileal f tse that they do, unfounded iu reasou or in truth. The Lost Indian-. lion. Geo. B. Smith, of Wisconsin, tells an Indian story, in illustration of the position and pretentions of certain 'life long Democrats,' now in the camp of the abolitionists, which runs as follows : An old Indian having strayed from his wigwam, found himself lost on trying to . return to it. After looking about into " strange 'lodges here and there, the Indian exclaimed in dismay, 'Injun lost !' but recovering himself and unwilling to acknowledge such short-sightedness, con tinued, drawing himself up, 'No, Injun no lost, wigwam, lost (aud btriking his breast), Injun here !' So with the wandering Democrats ; thev are uuwilling to acknowledge thev have straved from the party it is the ! party . that is lost. The bolter says : 'iV, I'm no bolter ; it is the party that has bolted. I'm here." (Aud "that's , right in the centre of the abolition camp.) !5TTlie man who courted an investigation says it in't half so nice as courting an affectionate girl. We believe him. , 3TTh following is sharp : First party "You'll come to the gallows some lay." Second or addressed party "Yes, the day you are hanged."
