V understand it isdeterniined to appraise ands and improvements at a pold valuation, instead of at the present ficticious valuation under an inflated paper currency. Hcpr.LARiEs. We learn that last nipht the sleeping apartment of Cha's Eaton, at the Morrisen House, was entered by a burglar, who succeeded in getting his pocket book and making his escape, Charley giving chase, but was unable to overhaul him. We also learn that the sleeping apartments of Capt Ed. Kent and Albert McCrea, at the Spurrier House were entered and their pocket books taken. We have been unable to Icarn the amount of loss. j EST The attention of the reader is invited to the nev advertisement of Geisendorf Co., No. 01 and C3, Makes Row, West Washington St., in to days Volunteer. This establishment has become quite a favorite with the citizens of Shelby visiting Indianapolis, nnd the stock of goods is always large and of a superior quality. It will be remembered thatJA's E. Robertson, formerly of this city, is ne of the partners. Fraccs. We understand there was a email pugilistic fracus at a school or meeting house in the North-western portion of this Township one night last week. It appears there was a singing school at the aforesaid ihooo, at which the "truly loyal" were largely rfresen ted. One of the "loyal" ladies called another lady a "Rutternut," whereupon tho lady thus addressed proceeded to punish in a severe manner the aforesaid "loyal" damsel. It also appears that a In League, they hold their sessions with closed doors, admitting none but members of the institution. A lady of the neighborhood, who Jiad not been initiated, presented herself at the door und demanded admittance, which was refused by the door keepor, whereupon the lady proceeded to flog the young gentleman, which she. done in good style, and entered in triumph. As the boys would fay 4 bullv for her." Call on George. Our esteemed friend Georok Drxx, as will be observed by reference to our advertising columns, has determined that the community should no longer remain in ignorance as to the excellence of his work, nor of the superior quality of custom made work he keeps on hand, especially designed for the wear of men, women, misses and bova. It will be observed that he jruarantees to sell as cheap as the cheapest, and we can vouch that his tok, both as regards material and workmanship, is asg:od as the bet, and besides George is counted a clever fellow and an honest dealer. Returned. Mr. George W. Sexour re turned to this city on Saturday last after an absence of about eighteen months in California, where he has been to look after his af fairs in that golden region. He resided there For seycral years prior to taking up his residence in thLs locality. Fatal Accident. As Daniel Drown was crossing the trossel work of the fcfhelhyville fc JColurabus 11. R. over Flat Hock River on Thursday morning the 14th, he slipped end fell, receiving internal injuries of so severe a nature as to cause his death the same night Mr. Drown was a laboring man and leaves a large family of small ehildren quite destitute. BQw The snow has about taken its departure. The atmosphere for a few days past has been serene and balmy, and the mornings beautiful, especially if you were up early enough to behold the splendor of the Kastcrn horizon before the rising of the sun. S.5The Secretary or the Treasury has not yet given notice of any intention to withdraw this popular Loan from sale at Par, and until ten days notice is given, the undersigned, aa " General ScnscRirnox Aoist," will continue to supply the public, The whole amount of the Loan authorised is Five Hundred Millions of Dollars. Nearly Four Hundred Millions have been already subscribed for and paid into the Treasury, mostly within the last seven months. The large demand from abroad, and the rapidly increasing home demand for use as the basis for ci rendition by National Banking Associations now organizing in all parts of the country, will, in a very short period, alorb tlie balance. Sales have al ready ranged from ten to fifteen millions weekly, frequently exceeding three millions daily, and as it is welfknown that the Secre tary of the Treasury has ample and unfailing resources in the Duties on Imports and the Internal Revenues, and in the issue of the interest bearing Legal Tender Treasury Notes, it is almost a certainty that he will not find it necessary, for a long time to come, to seek a market for any other long er permanent loans, i he Interest and Principal or which are Payable in GOLD. Frndence and self-interest must force the minds of those contemplating the formation of National Banking Associa tions, as well as the minds of all who have id e money on their hands, to ihe prompt conclusion that they should lose no time in subscribing to this popular Loan. It will anon be beyond their reach, and advance to a handsome premium, as was the result with the "Seven Thirty" Loan, when it was all sold and could no longer be sulscriled fr at par. IT IS A SIX TER CENT IJAN, THE INTEREST 4t PRINCIPAL PAYABLE IN COIN, THUS YIELDING OVER NINE TER CENT PER ANNUM at the present rate of premium on coin. The Government requires all duties on imports to be paid in Coin ; these duties have for a long time past amounted to over a Quarter of a Million Dollars daily, a sum nearly three times greater than that required in the payment of the Interest on all the 5-?0s and other permanent Zoans. So that i is hoped that the surplus coin in the Treasury, at no distant day, will enable the United States to resume specie payments upon all liabilities. The Loan is called 5-20 from the fact that whilst the Bonds may nn for 20 years yet the Government has a right to pay them su" in Gobi, at par, at any time after 5 years. THE INTEREST IS PAID HALF YEARLY, riit on the firt days of November ami May. Subscribers can have Coupon Bonds, which are payable to hearer, and are 850, 31W), $j00 and $1000 ; or registered Bonis of same denominations, and in addition 95,000 and $10,009. For Banking purposes and for investment of Trust monies tho Registered Bonds are preferable. , Tlies 5-20's cannot be taxed by States, cities, towns, or counties, and the Government tax on them is only o le-and-a-half p?r cent., oathe amount of income, when the income of the he Ider exceeds Six Hundred dollars per annum; all other Itvestments, such as income from Mortgages, Railroad Stock an I Bonds, etc, must pay from threa to Ave per cent tax on the income. Bauls and Bankers throughout the country will oatinae to dispose of the Bonds , and all order, bry mail or otherwise promp.lw attended to. The inconvenience of a few days' delay in the delivery of the bonds is unadvoidaMe, the demand being so great ; but as interest commence from the day of subscription, no loss is occasioned, and every effort is being made to diminish the delay.
