"jrvl will be pleased to pive instruct. ons to a limited number of scholars on the Piano. Mr. Major, wc are assured, is an accomplished master of the art, and those desiring to perfect themselves in this desirable aceom. plit-hment will no doubt find it to their interest to put themselves under his instructions. Application can be made to him for terms, A c at the residence of Alfred Major, Esq., on Mechanic street

WOOD I WOOD! ! ,)Ve would hint to those of our subscribers who have contracted to or purpose paying their subscription for the Volunteer in wood that

now is the time we need it, and thev will con

, far a special accommodatioe by bringing it

along at once.

Shk Knew. A lady remarked in our hear

ing the other day that she had done a large

amount of her shopping for several years past in Indianapolis, but was never able to pro

cure better bargains than at Tyler's Bee-

Hive. The stock is always complete, and

it was never larger than at present, excelling

even the usunl completeness and elegance of

the stock exhibited at this establishment.

. Ladies visiting Indianapolis in search of rich and elegant dress poods, cloaks, Ac., should

not fail to visit the Bee-Hive, corner Wash, ington and Meredian streets. S5Fin another column we publish a card

from T. A. M'Farland, denying certain char

ges therein specified, about an attempt to Tote soldiers who were not nor never had been residents of the county. We have not been able to see our informant since the card was handed in and therelore give it the benefit of our circulation without special comment or denial this week. It will also be observed that much matter entirely foreign to

the subject has been lugod in, mere bosh and Tcrhage, and as meaningless as "sounding symbols," but, as it is the authors "style" the production would not be complete without it. A careful perusal of the card will show that the main points of our charge against Mr, M'Farland are admitted. .- No blame nor censure attaches to the boys in question.

These, in addition to his former assortment of instruments, 'will enable him, in connection with hisproved skill in the art, to perform nil operations in the most approved and skillful manner. Resigned. We understand that Ceo. "NV Toner has resigned the position of City Mar shalnnd that dames C. Morrison has b?cn appointed to fill the vreaney. It is a difficult offica to fill satisfactorily if a man does big luty promptly and fearlessly he is sure to in herit the lasting hatred of a certain class and their friends if he endeavors to be lenient, to overlook violations of law and order, he is censured by the citizens who are taxed to keep the wheels of our city Government in motion. A police officer must expect the illwill ot one class or the other, and it is for liim to decide which, and we will only add that the rowdy portion of every community, as a general thing, is quite small, and is seldom able to do much in the way of elevating any of their pets to office or in the estimation of the better class of community. tST' Those of lady readers in quest of new and elegant Furs should call at Bamberger lt East Washington street, Indianapolis, whose stock is as complete as any in the State, &ni lie assures us will be sold as cheap.

The probability is that the tax-payers
